Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 854 pump?

Just sold the 24v and bought a 12v. It's a 96 2wd auto. I bought an AFE stage 1 for it, slid the stock fuel plate full forward, afc full forward. Gauges will be here Monday afternoon. I probably have 1 more mod left in the old bank account before the wife has a fit, what should it be? 370's, a fuel plate, or gsk? What will be the best bang for the buck?

If it were me, I would ignore the wife :D
Ok, for real, I would advance the pump timing to 16* and then if any thing left over, get a 4" exhaust.

Let us know what you do... :D

How much would a shop usually charge to advance the timimg? Does it do for the truck what it does for the 24v, move the power band up, and lower egt's?

Don't waste your money on a fuel plate- grind your stock one to a 10 or 100. The gsk helps a ton and will work well with all mods in the future. If you go with 370s you'll need to worry about EGTs and a bigger exhaust.

Fuel plate or 3gsk. GSK will give you higher rpm's, plate more fuel, depends on what you want.
This plus injectors is all you will want to do unless/until transmission is upgraded.
You don't need a bigger exhaust until you have several more mods.

Godspeed,
Trent

As blacksheepdiesel suggested I would start with and trans shift kit and good strong convertor if it's in the budget. Call a diesel shop and see what it would be for timming adjustment. I'm sure price will very from shop to shop. As far timing adjustment it does change power band and egt's temp.

The farther adjusted you go the higher the band comes in and egt's temp increase with higher advancement. I was at 16* and went back to 14. 8* becuase when pulling long steep grades when towing egt's temp reach 1500 degrees if I would let it. At 14. 8* it doesn't go passed 1000 degrees underload. Try a wastegate restrictor elbow if you can find one this will help bring it alive.

thanks everyone for the replies, I sure appreciate the help. I'll let you know what I decide. Timing sounds like a good idea, and one I had not really thought about. Probably will do the gsk and grind my own plate as well.

spend the money on a GSK

you can grind your own plate...

buy the tools and do your own timing bump... then you can tell the wife you weren't modifying the truck , you just had to buy some tools ;)
