Go Figure!! I don't understand

Okie,

I gonna change mine to the 180 before my tow to Florida in May, I'll let you know what I think. sure hope it helps #6 stay cooler; I've been told DC put it in to reduce emissions  and Cummins actually recommends the 180.

Cummins will only sell you the 180* Tstat. I put one in my truck last year after the 190* bit the dust. It has seemed to help mileage a bit too. :) The Tstat cost a hole $19 from Cummins as aposed to the $24 at the Dodge dealer.

Neat! statistical analysis says you have something here!!

Neat info...

I ran a quick statistical analysis to check if your

findings are significant or a random distribution of data, and ...

drum roll please... . :)

#ad

your observations/data is statistically significant.

In plain English, there is a real difference in MPG with the

180F thermostat vs. the stock 190F thermostat on your truck.

Cheers

Good luck staying warm in the cab with the 180 thermostat,I've frozen my but off all winter today I put in a 195 from autozone not the one there computer calls for it's to small, and low and behold tonight at 30 degrees I had to turn the temp knob down for the first time, the gauge stays just below 190 and not much swing. I may have to switch back in the summer while towing but only time will tell. Warm and happy for now.

Never had a problem staying warm with my 180* Tstat worked great all winter. :confused: Sure it wan't sticking open thats what happened to my 190* that was on the truck. :( The tep gauge wouldn't ever get above 110* when it happened. You talk about cold that was real cold. :{

My truck has never had a good heater and takes about 5-6 miles to produce any useable heat, this is the third stat ,the second was dealer replaced 3 months ago,I didn't place it in water to test but was closed upon removal Icould drive 44 miles home with the heater on high fan max temp all winter, last night was the first time in a long time or maybe ever I had to turn the temp down,it was great to have hot feet.

My truck is a bone stock 99 quad longbed with a 5 speed.

I got my tstat at Southernplains here in Houston. Absolutely

wonderful dealership to deal with. The only problem I saw

was I need to wash my truck next time I take it in. The place

is spotless. They even have cable and lounge chairs for you.

I had my valves adjusted there. $130.

I also recently changed to the 180.

Dont see much change in mileage, still 18. 5-19. Got 12. 2 loaded (pretty much same as before).

The heater works fine. Motor runs much cooler, also noticed less heat radiating in the floorboard.

Not sure I like it yet, as mine seemed to run a little smoother & quieter at the higher temp, but maybe its just imagination (but I dont have numbers to support the claim as Grey Ghost does) his numbers are impressive!.

Bottom line for MINE, is it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
