Here I am

New 2006 D-Max

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

American Diesel ??? Europien Diesel ???

I-6 vs. V-8

A - If you want a stick, the Dmax is still 300/520 - far behind the 325/610 with G56.

B - Cummins is already working on the Jan 1 2007 engine, no need to rush :) and you KNOW they'll be number one then. My prediction: 375/675-700.

Let me tell you guys - with the $$$$ of Diesel ---

I think they're going in the wrong direction!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you're Paul Allen or Bill Gates - I think a lot of folks are going to look at other options or give up what we currently do - NOT everybody mind you - But also not the demand we once saw - IMO

The purchase price will keep those away who really don't need/can't afford it. Loaded 3500 Mega is well over $50K for 2006. Dodge Magnum V6 is far more practical as a family hauler for most.

what I was really

referencing was the expense of Diesel Fuel to run these things - I think economy will be a push rather than performance... ... ...

I understood that, but if you have to drive, you'll pay to fuel it. On the other hand, if you really don't need a truck and a large sedan will do, the purchase price of a loaded Laramie will help the decision far more than a price sign at a gas station... oil prices can drop, your payments won't.

I look at long term. Yeah I pay a lot for my truck every month, but it will be payed off in 5 and I hope to have it for 15. In 5 years then I can buy something else family wise and still have my rattlin ram.

A V pattern motor will never be as efficient as an inline motor. Thats just the facts. I am a fan of more power, but when we start getting to crazy to just beat the competitors numbers, we lose focus on whats most important. Longevity and efficiency. I like the H. O 24v motor that was 305/510 (or something like that). My dad consistently got 25MPG empty on the highway, and all he did was buy an ATS 4inch exhaust. (2001 3500 HO 4x4)

My brother has a 05 2500 auto, and he gets 19 empty on the highway.

Personally, I don't care if everyone beats me to the top of the hill, just as long as I make it. :D :D and have more fuel at the end of the trip :-laf :-laf

Power numbers are nice.

Reliability and effiiency is way up their in importance too.

I would go with slightly less power every time for the kind of money I'm putting out. Don't need the headaches just top brag over who has more stock hp. I got gobs of power with the upgrades, way more than the 06 max. The Dmax is getting worse with every new iteration of power and emission upgrades. Overheating is now becoming the latest issue on top of unreliable injectors and not so great mileage. No thanks. I'll take simplicity and a real "designed for longevity" Cummins over the newer Dmax and PSD's.

Was just at the chevy dealer and they had 3 2006 dmax and the power numbers were 310hp and 605 tq, with the 6 speed allison. I wonder if they will up them mid year?

Yeah, and I heard their TV ad for them last night. "The most torque of any V-8 diesel. " The trickery is in the "V-8" part. It took me a second to realize how they were getting away with the claim of most torque at 605.

In other posts there was talk of going to the 6. 7L (I6) cummins which is currently used in AG applications. This is the engine for the medium duty application which will also supposedly have the new 68RE (6 speed auto). I don't know if this will be in the 1-ton trucks but I would think so, or at least an option.

Edit: I heard the rating was 850LB/FT but I'm sure they will detune and work their way up as needed ;)
