That's funny, I had the same opinion and refused to take my 2010 RAV4 in for the same issue, but I thought it was to change the clearance from the floor to the bottom of pedal to avoid the bogus throttle sticking issue.

Yeah, even if you take a vehicle in for one thing, dealers may do other 'updates and/or recalls'. This may be best for them, the manufacturer, and even most owners, but it's not always best for the enthusiast customer. I know one local Toyota dealer will let customers decline to have a recall performed, but once a car is out if my control there is no guarantee. As you know, getting a rig back to where it was may be nearly impossible and/or very expensive.

Well it's official, and here is a pic. But I won't see it for two months due to the service bed to be installed. Check the link for the details. http://www.jcofontario.com/new/Ram/2014-Ram-2500-Ontario-CA-840d240c0a0a00027cd2daebd853db40.htm

Updating the truck info, here are the pics. Sorry for the poor pictures the owner is driving it until the logo and graphics are put on the truck and my first look at the truck was at 6:30am and had to go make them money to afford that nice truck.

What's the long, over head boxes for?

Nothing nicer than a brand new white pickup

There's only one on the rack and it's for pipe and anything else that's long with a small diameter. I didn't have any say in the configuration and I don't like where it's located but I'll work around it. I get it on Tuesday after my 4 day weekend, it is a nice truck, I can't wait.

OK, now that I've got a couple of thousand miles of driving it, I have to say I'm impressed with the new power and 68rfe. But I'm not a fan of the 3:42 rear end, if I have it in drive and say going 45MPH at 1250 RPM or less, and want to accelerate, the entire driveline shudders until the RPM is over 1500. So now I immediately click on Tow/Haul and EB when I start the truck, it seems to run better that way, I only hope to have good MPG driving it in T/H.

When Dodge came out with the 3:42, I wondered about that, that it might always seem like if it was climbing a grade with a high GCVW, but I guess it effects it even at a low GVW. If it was my truck, that I paid for (it is a company owned truck) it would have at a minimum, a 3:73, and if it was a 3500 DRW it would have the 4:10's.

I thought the 3.42:1 gearing was going to be far too tall for me as I was coming from a 4.10:1-geared, ZF S5, 7.3/T444E, and two gas V8 trucks with 4.88:1 gears. However, I find the gearing nearly perfect thus far with the torque and power of my G56-equipped 2014 2500.

Firth/direct should be a great hill puller, and is 'direct'.

Are you saying with a 6 speed stick in 5th you are in direct?

With the 6 sp auto in 5th you are in first OD.

My LongHorn Dually really pulls a combined 29K load well with 3:42's and 68RFE. 6% grades at or near 55.

Cummins12V98, can you see your EGT and what gear/RPM were you in, pulling that 29K GCVW up the 6% grade? I doubt that my new truck will ever pull any loads for long periods, it is an Air-conditioning Service truck as you see in the pic on a previous post.

Get a temperature probe in that G56 and keep a close eye on it. I don't like my 3:73 rear with the G56, so I couldn't imagine going with a 3:42. If there is ever a need for my rear end repair, it will be changed to the 4:10's, however my C&C is only 305 HP. Also I believe 4:10's are easier on the G56 and will help with it running cooler.

You have the AE ratios correct?

I'll put a temp sensor on it eventually, already have part of the kit I will use. But trailer pulling is not on the immediate horizon, though slide-in camper hauling is, and when I do hook-up my old 30' Avion it only weighs 8,000-pounds.

I'm sure I wouldn't mind 3.73:1 gears, but as I said, I'm surprised that I do not hate the 3.42:1 like I thought... and I live in the mountains, at altitude, with much wind. Only 5,000 miles on the truck, but I'm liking the low engine speed on the freeway, and the engine seems to have plenty of go through the G56 for me.

Yeah,I'm glad I've got the early G-56 with the lower final drive. It saved my original dmf, enables me to run 34" tires and still carry 2000# on my back constantly. Pretty gutless though without Smarty.
