hey guys 12 valver here, my brothre inlaw just bought a 24 valve it's a 2000 and he has no knowledge what so ever but he wants power..... i know the basic equation fuel and air but it's a little easier on the 12's so if anyone could give me some tips as to where to start i'd be gratefull... . it's an auto so i know we need to start with the transmission. what are some good upgrades there and who makes em. also what are the best injectors i hear edm all the time as for turbos that's in the baghe's going to go schwitzer or hx40... ... ..... thanks for your help guys

First thing he needs to figure out, how much power does he want? Then go from there. Does he have a rough # in mind? Doing this, he should only have to buy parts once. Unless he wants more later, anyhow.

he's looking to put out somewhere in the 400 horse range ..... probably low fours and thanks for the tip about fuel pressure makes sense

more choices

low 400's is not too bad. Now to decide how. All injectors no box. Small injectors ,big box. Something in between. What type of driving etc. will help you decide. 24v can make nicely mannered hot rod

Fuel system upgrade. I am looking at a FASS or FASS-2 here. They are easy upgrades to install and worth it. The stock fuel supply system can not supply enough fuel for a stock truck, let alone a bombed truck.

Get the following gauges at a minimum: FP, Boost, Pyro, transmission Temp.

I have some observations on fuel pressure. I still have my original lift pump which is moderately healthy. It idles at 11 psi & cruises at 7-9. However with my BOMB level it's not hard to draw it down to 1 psi under heavy load. I started upgrading one piece at a time. 8 AN fittings & line from filter to VP 44 had no effect on pressures, but a second 8 AN line with fittings from lift pump to filter made a dramatic improvement. Idle pressure unchanged but at cruise the pressure drop was none to 1 psi & I can't pull it lower than 6 under load. I still have one restrictive banjo on the lift pump inlet. I'll go ahead & replace that with a 6 AN fitting & line back to the stock steel line under the cab, but I'll wait with my beautiful looking FASS HPFP until the original starts wearing out. All this is to say that it might not take 100's of $$$ to feed a BOMB Cummins. A couple of feet of fat fuel line & a few high flow fittings can make a big difference. :D
