I'm hot to order a new truck, but boss is raising cain for an auto transmission. Does anyone know anything about the new 4 spd auto?

The 48RE is a good transmission, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. But you need to spend some $$$ on it if you're not going to leave the engine stock.

There's a new 68RFE (I think) 6 speed coming out soon, either early '06 or for the '07 models.

Who knows how long it will take after the introduction for the new trannys to be built up for performance?

I would buy the truck and not worry about the trans. See if you can get an '05, so you still have the 7/70 powertrain warranty.

The shift strategies on the 05/06 48re's are great, leave the power stock and they work very well.

Bob, I agree 100 percent! I have 13k on my 05 with the 48re and a good deal towing 8k over the Cajone pass. I have no issues with the stock performance of this trans. It is night and day better than the 47RE. I love tapping the brake with the Tow/Haul on going down hill and feel the trans come out of overdrive with the TC still locked, thus providing a little bit of engine braking...

With all of that said, I certainly am not leaving my truck stock and the Stock torque converter is too loose for my taste. I feel that alot of mileage and power is lost through it...

I will be getting a full DTT treatment at about 36k :-laf

Billua you will love the new transmission, Now to hijack the thread.

How about that Kore chase is it worth the money? With the transmission people that haven't driven one say "way to much money" but for those that have it's all :D. I'm wondering if the Kore is that way?

I and everyone that rides in my truck is impressed. The most amazing thing to me is that this truck now has NO body roll. It is like it's on rails! I do have a dually, so my ride with never be as good as yours. But, this suspension took the "dually harshness away. " Now, washboard type stuff that was a 10 on the Richter scale before is about a 3 now...

Is it worth it? YES!

If you are around LAS, I do have N2 available for your shocks... No charge for TDR members!

Cheers

Auto Transmission

I have the 48RE on my 05, 3500 dually with 37,000 miles on it now over 30,000 of that is towing a heavy 5iver, no problems with the mountains or any other roads or loads. Good transmission and the little bit of engine braking it provides on the down grades is great. Mine is stock and I plan to leave it that way until a reason comes up to make changes.

Kore worth the money? Yes.

Will I put a Kore suspension on my next CTD? Yes.

Will I buy an auto and pay for the full treatment on my next truck? Yes.

If it wasn't my first CTD (which I purchased slightly used prior to discovering TDR-would have bought new from DSM):

I would have bought the 325/600 with the 48RE, still spent the money on the Kore system, skipped the rims and put 35" Toyos on the stock rims. The leftover cash would have been put towards building the auto as my 1st mod.

Both are a necessity IMHO. The stock ride for me was unbearable.

I tested both my 48re and Kore system in the dunes at Glamis last week-end. The suspension was tested to the Max as was the trans. I will be upgrading to DTT as the budget allows,my partner does the DTT's... ... ... . I have an advantage there. I will be adding a fan cooled cooler for the trans, the sand builds a lot of temp in the trans and passes it on to the coolant which is not a good thing at off road speeds without adequate air flow. There is more discussion on Kore here https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143842

Along with a couple pictures of the dunes with diesel power Oo.

I would say its farther out than 07 . not even tooling up for the unit as we speak. the new line in plant is a front driver 6spd.
