Not sure if this thread is a good idea or not, if not it will get buried fairly quickly I am sure. It is common on motorcycle forums to have a main thread saying something like "I just bought my new ktm 990 now what" ; it gives new owners one thread to search through for all the common Q/A instead pages of posts.
I have questions that probably have been answered somewhere here, and there are probably answers that I have not asked the question to yet and a single thread for a new owner would give me a lot of information and save a lot of posting new threads for a single newbie question.

Turn off alarm:

How do you disable the alarm and horn beep when remote starting or unlocking ?
Short story, and not funny to some , but I picked up my truck (9 pm on a Saturday no less) from a dealer 350 miles way. So we figured we will hit a stop on the way back and sleep. Best solution was a way side at midnight so we stopped there. set up the back of the truck to sleep while motor running , we were in the mountains and using a little heat while prepping to crash for the night. For some reason I needed to get out of the front door and I cant even remember if the motor was still running or just doors locked or what, but either way I go to open door and alarm goes off ! Mind you there are people trying to sleep next to us. Took me about one loooong minute to figure out how to shut off the alarm - hit the unlock on fob - don't try the double bump on the panic on the fob, it only makes it beep faster ! Either way I sure would like to turn off that alarm. Along with the horn beep on remote start and lock/unlock

auto shut down

Auto shut off ?

Next one, I thought someone told me that the truck will auto shut off when you walk away with the fob ? Well I tried that yesterday and like most things I try to remember - I forgot ! About a hour later my girl asked why the truck was running ? Humm - maybe I need to set that up ? ? ?

I agree there ought to be a way because I have tried to search for threads that I know have appeared before. The correct words must be chosen for the search and each of us may have a different way to pose a question. So I go ahead and ask the obvious if I cannot find it and someone will point me in the right direction with a link or simply answer the question. Sometimes I print a copy of a thread for future reference so I don't have to show my computer ignorance too often. I can't answer your question but sympathize with you.

There are waaaay too many electrical gadgets to engage or disengage and distract driving in MHO. I favor the simpler way of life when you just used a key to secure your vehicle. I did find a way to eliminate the horn beep when setting the locks with the key fob. It's on the apps??? portion I think. Lots of defaults in there. And the alarm for the seat belt off when 4-wheel driving can be disengaged with a key on/off sequence. Anyway there are several things you can customize and someone will probably give you the path to do most of them. I find that the disable function for the back up camera stays on after you shut down but not the tow/haul, exhaust brake, radio function, etc. I now get a message that I have no access to uconnect every time I fire up. I did not activate that feature since I do not intend to pay for it after the first year, but, I did not get that message for the first few months. WTF???? Can't seem to get rid of it. Irritating stuff but the power while enjoying the quiet interior is worth a lot.

All this non-user friendly BS on the new pickups will certainly steer me away from buying a new one anytime in the near future!!

People have been saying that since the 70's with electronic ignition- then the 80's with electronic fuel injection- but we all think its fine now- just saying :D
none the less this thread is to hopefully help us sort out some of those things you consider BS - I kinda like all my new creature comforts-they just need a little personalization is all.
Most of us are on this site to either learn how to improve our rigs or how to fix them when they fail- lucky for us there are also those here that are teaching, were pretty lucky for this high tech thing called the internet ! Its all progress (I think ;))

A big chunk of me can't argue with the above. But then again, I'm a bit of a push over with the newer and bigger cab's.

You're going to love the 4th gen cab. I just rolled 71K on my 2010 1/2 ton and have enjoyed every mile. The crew cab is a great leap forward in space from the 3rd gen quad.

To the OP, not trying to be a wiseacre, but I recommend you spend a few hours reading the manual. You can download them free as searchable PDFs. They're not the easiest documents in the world (no page numbers in cross references, for example), but there's a lot of info in there.

We used to say that you had to be smarter than the equipment you're trying to operate. Blasted equipment is getting smarter every year, and our operating system needs a few updates... Anyway, have your 10 year old grandson/daughter set up the thing JUST THE WAY YOU WANT IT, and never touch another button. Tell them that when you croak, it's theirs! In the interim, enjoy all the modern conveniences and creature comforts these new puppies have to offer. They are nice!

I've got the 5.0 radio..not sure what you have..But on mine it was a simple bit of navigating on the big screen and setting alarms/lites /horns and other things as you see fit..Good Luck.
