New 5er but no bed clearance

I just picked up a 28' 5er. I have a goose neck in the bed and when the trailer is on the gn I only have about 4" clearance to the bed rails. Now there is some adjustment on the hitch on the trailer so I lowered it all the way down and it gave me about 4" more so now I'm at about 8 total, but now the rear end of the trailer is way too close to the ground for my liking. My axle has already been flipped. Can you put some blocks or something under the axle to raise up the rear end.

Are you using a GN -5th Wheel adaptor. Just curious?? You will probably need to add some sort of spacer blocks between your spring hangers and frame on your fifth wheel. This is what I had to do to obtain enough bed clearance on my trailer. Oh, there has been much posted about the additional strain to the pin box mounting structure on the 5th wheel trailers when using these adaptors.

I am using an adapter. The trailer is an 87' and someone told me that older trucks had shallower beds so the adapter is shorter which dosen't work too well in a deeper bed such as a 3rd gen. Even if I had a longer adapter I still have the problem of the rear of the trailer being too close to the ground. Where did you find the blocks you put under your trailer.

I have been reading about the difference in the height of the beds from the 2nd genration to the 3rd generation. It meant if I traded trucks to a 3rd generation my overhead camper would not fit.



Well I was sitting in Albertsons parking lot waiting for my wife when a women parked in front of me with a truck just like mine but a 3rd generation.

When she went into the store I measured her bed and cab and then mine. For all practical purposes they were the same, and my camper would fit her truck.

Smoke, I had it done when they installed the TrailAir CP-3 system. They used 2"x3" thick wall steel tubing. Just cut off the hangers, Welded the tubing in place and reinstalled hd hangers with greaseable shackles. They also cross braced the tubing for extra support.
