Propane Conversion

Good Morning,

We currently have a 28ft Week end warrior and are looking to upgrade this year. Drug it around with an 01 2500 with an auto.

I just got a 06 dually with a G56 and love it! Oo. Want to instal a Pac Brake this weekend.

My question(s) is, how big of a toy hauler should we look at?

What are you guys hauling out there with a similar truck?

I have my eye on a KZ sport. 36' with a empty wieght of around 11k, loaded 16k

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

My only recommendation is stay within your CGVW of 23,000 lbs. That means the 16K KZ will put you overweight with anything accept maybe a 2wd. That don't mean others are not towing more with no problems, I just elect to stay within my weight ratings for legal reasons.

(my 06 in the Sig is just under 7000 lbs on the scales)

Looks like he has the truck and is soliciting opinions on larger toy haulers.

what are you putting in a toyhauler like a KZ that weighs 5k? I have a 37' Sportsman Sportster I tow with a 3500srw ,, I have no problem with it,tows great , great trailer, very good value compared to a lot of other trailers,eg, Raptors, American Sport ,etc. I haul a bike ,approx. 900 lbs with other things of course. figure I may have 2000-2500lbs together extra.

Thanks for the help!

The 16k is the max loaded gvw of the trailer, I dont think I will actual load it that heavy.

Two Harleys and stuff, more like 14k I'm guessing.

But with all the **** my wife packs we might be pushing that 16k mark!

Thanks again!

I purchased an All-American sport 28ft TT in 05', gross is 11,800lbs, didn't take long to get it close to max. I crossed the scales at 19,600lbs last summer with my 01' 2500 4x4. I know you can max it out with 2 bikes, some propane, charcoal, etc, etc, etc... . it adds up. I've seen lots of 2500's with big 5th wheels on 'em, and must be 3000lbs over gross. Your fully loaded trailer will be fine on that 3500.

My biggest complaint with the purchase of a new trailer (and a safety concern) was poor tires. In 12,000 miles I've had 3 blowouts. Turns out the tires were load range D, no name, chinese, and maxed out right from the start. They, the manufacturer, Forest River, even took into consideration the tounge weight and subtracted it from the trailer gross and threw on tires that had 20 lbs. of capacity left when I was loaded and traveling. I'm not talking about a tire that delaminated, or developed a leak, I'm talking catastophic failure, as in: "A shot gun just went off", and the whole rig shook. Ripping fenders off and spraying shrapnel all over the road. If one of them tires takes out the one next to it, I'm gonna be in big trouble. I wrote letters to Forest River and the dealer, with a response of, "The engineers said it was ok", "Now its your problem, you bought it. " Make sure whatever you buy has some darn good rubber thats not maxed out when loaded!

Hope the cabinets don't shake themselves into disintegration on your rig either, but thats another story.

You really do need to weigh whatever trailer you buy, weigh it dry before you load anything. Then way it just before you leave for a trip. Verrrrrrry easy to add 4k no problem. I tell you this becuase wheaton is right. Your biggest issue will be the cheap tires they put on new trailers. Do the math and you will discover the tires a grossley in adequate for your toy trailer. I have found this to be an across the board issue with most trailer manufactures. I have had simular issues.....

Nice fulltime 5th wheel, which is a 4 star rated unit, but I think the asking price is too high according to NADA.

could be... i don't know much about them... but i am sure he is willing to deal

what are they saying it's worth?

If everything works, no damage and in top condition, NADA says $31,180.

that could be... i know they went to the factory and had a lot of upgrades and custom work done when they had it built.

Thanks

just talked to dad and he said

With NADA you have to add up all the options, and there are a couple not listed. Once you do that the $$ is more like $47000. 00
