Had a strange thing happen with my new truck where it wouldn't start, I spoke to the local dealer about it and they had no clue, so I want to see if you guys have any idea. I went to start my truck and it turned over but it wouldn't start, like it was out of gas (fuel tank was full). I kept trying to start it for about 15 minutes, with no luck. I finally pulled the key out of the ignition, hit the unlock button for no other reason than what the heck, put the key back in the ignition and then the truck started right up and since then, no problems. The temperature outside was 70 degress and sunny. Any ideas?

My truck did the same on sat. I turned the key off and on a few times and it started up, no clue what the deal is.

The WCM (wireless control module) might have locked up. Have your dealer check if there is a flash available. If it happens again and you have a wrench with you, and the lock/unlock does not work, disconnect both battery ground cables, touch one ground cable to the positive cable for a couple of seconds, then hook both back up. This should reset a locked up module. If it starts then, it is a strong possibility the WCM was locked up.

I asked the dealer about a chip or something with the remote that could cause it to do that and they said it does have a chip but that it would not cause what happened if there was something wrong with it.

Wouldn't the 6. 7s act just like the 5. 9s in regards to security? I thought my 5. 9 would start for a few seconds and then shut off if the correct key was not present.

My 6. 7 did not start once so far. I accidentally short-stroked the key turn so it turned over but did not start. After mentally calling myself and idiot I turned the key again, but it acted like there was no fuel. I pulled the key out, and after mentally saying "hmm . . . ", I put it back in and let it sit for a few seconds in "run". When I turned it to start it fired right up.

Mentally calling your self an idiot? Why be bashful? I just say it out loud and the wife and kids nod in agreement. :-laf

I've run into trouble twice starting mine. I thought the first time it may have been that I didn't wait for the idiot light to go off. Turned the key off then on for an extra secind or two and no problem.

The second time I'm pretty sure I hit the lock button. Same symptoms same cure.

I chalk mine up to big hands and poor key design.

You know what they say about big hands??????

Big Gloves! (just had to get that in) :0)

Ivan,

Same thing happened to me yesterday. . full tank fuel, engine turned over... nothing. tried 4 times. sounded like a lack of fuel. pulled the key out and tried the fifth time ... fired right up.

mine did that today was going to take truck to have my fifth wheEL installed when my truck would not start like you guys acted like no fuel let it sit for a minute then started up

Might be completely different on an '06, but I had similar symptoms and found a loose ground wire from the negative terminal on the battery to the ECM. Tighten it up and no more problems..... Worth checking out.

I have a slightly different problem. My 2008 with 5600 miles won't even crank the engine. Like the battery is completely discharged, but it's not. After a few times messing with it, it cranks and starts fine. Took it to the dealer this morning and they tell me it is the control module (WCM) and they have to order one. I hope they are right, I'd hate to get stranded way off somewhere while traveling.

If the WCM locks up pull the IOD fuse in the PDC for a couple of minutes. That should reset the module. If it does not, pull BOTH positive battery cables and touch one to the negative terminal for a couple of seconds. That will reset for sure and discharge any capacitors there might be in a module.

Tried unplugging the fuse and it started ok for a few days. This morning no joy at all. Tried the battery cable thing and also no difference. I didn't even see anything like a capacitor discharge spark and I didn't lose the presets on the radio, so I don't think that had any effect. Couldn't say why though.
Looks like I going to have to have it towed to the dealer when the replacement comes in. Anyone know if Chrysler is going to refund my towing charge. Only 6,083 miles on it.

Curiouser and curiouser! As I was trying to get started this morning, after a long time of no crank, I accidentally set off the alarm by unlocking with the key in the lock. Immediately afterwards it starts. Has started several times today.

Checking with the dealer, they haven't been able to get a replacement WCM. Maybe this is a problem and they are in short supply. I'm real antsy, but I have to keep driving. :{
