Anybody know anything about the new design? I was patiently awaiting my new XMas present from Genos, as much for the looks of it as the performance. Then I just got this email:

"We finally got our shipment of AFE Torque Tubes in, but AFE has made a change to the kit we wanted to inform you of. They are no longer "mandrel-bent, powder-coated aluminized steel", but a one piece, thick extured plastic uniquely shaped to provide a perfect fit. The price will be the same. Hopefully you'll be ok with the change, but we'll be hanging on to your order today to give you a chance to get back to us if you want to cancel. Thank you. "

:(

Maybe the engineers at DC that made the "new and improved" plastic end-capped intercoolers for the 2005's transferred thier "wisdom" over to the AFE boys... .

Other then the fact the tourqe tube won't be as beefy looking I am sure it will perform just as well. I would hope the retail price comes down though! One would think it should as I am sure it is cheaper to make them out of plastic then aluminum...

Nice! Are they going to be available in different colors? Though I suppose one could just paint it to suit.

I doubt you'd get paint to stick to silicone very well. The blue is pretty cool looking anyway. I gotta imagine that if they do well in selling them they might expand the colors available.

I will ask the maker, maybe he also makes intercooler boots and they are blue as well.

I handled one last time I stopped by Meheen's and no, I would say paint would not stick worth a darn. The intake hose is cool though

Question on Torque Tube

Since we're talking about the Torque Tube, I hope a related question would be okay.

Does the Torque Tube fit up okay with the stock airbox?

Or do you need to buy the AFE Filter setup to go with it and do away with the stock airbox?

Thanks.

Can you PM me a price on this hose?

I hate the factory one, but the torque tube is a bit expensive for the benefit, IMO

Whew! I just got mine a couple weeks ago..... the last of the aluminun ones I guess. Painless to install.

Boy, does it make the turbo puuurrrrrrrrr..... :D

Yup... Install directions actually cover a reconnect to stock box. I went w/ the intake too. Lots of air going in there w/ the AFE PG7.

Boy, the Cool Blue Tube is quite a bit more than the TT. It definitley looks cooler (IMHO), and the other hoses would make a nice look in the engine compartment. But then when I take a realistic look inside the engine compartment, the dirt and grime kinda take me back to reality. I'm not in high school anymore and I dont have time to polish my engine compartment every weekend.

Genos sent me a shipping confirmation, so I guess the TT is on its way. I wonder if this one will be any more compatible with the TAG??????

Unless they used some kind of new design, I've seen reinforced silicone couplers collapse under suction and from the pictures it looks just like every other silicone coupler on the market. Better hope your filter is pretty free flowing. Put one on a dyno at 40psi and watch to see if it collapses.

Also, heat transfer from an AL intake pipe is so little it's not even worth mentioning. Unless your intake pipe is 8 feet long, the air is moving from filter to turbo fast enough and it's a short enough distance it's not thermally transferring heat from the pipe to the air.

Buyer beware.

The Cool blue hose is made by the manufacture of the TAG Im sure it would work just fine.

The Cool blue hose has been through much testing and inners supports seem to work fine.
