I don't think I've ever experienced this on any vehicle I've owned...
I put a new air filter (Mopar 53034249AA) in on Monday and according to the overhead console my MPG has increased by .5 MPG (and that's without any highway miles). The filter minder was at 65% when I changed it but the filter didn't look all that bad. I guess a larger flow of clean air really helps the old girl.
