The 48RE is scheduled for production beginning in December with release to assembly plants in January.

The 48RE is based upon the 47RE design with numerous improvements to handle the torque of the HO Cummins.

Highlights are:

Tested to at least 150K mile durability

Major changes to pump, valve body, friction material, gear train and park system

Allows use of exhaust brake

Hope this info helps!

This could be related to your question; frome the Jacobs site "Jacobs Exhaust Brake will be available for the 48RE Automatic Transmission starting in the first quarter of 2003". If they are making a Jake for the transmission it should be comming soon. Hope this helps:)
