Has anyone driven the new HO automatic. My dealer called today to tell me he has several on the lot, unfortunately I can not get down to drive one until I get back from vacation at the end of the month. Was wondering if anyone had driven one and what their impression the new trans was.

Yes I drove a 48re HO , with 3. 73 gears yesterday, I fell in love. Shifts were crisp and smooth. Rpm was 2100 @75mph. In fact I ordered a new truck after the test drive. I currently own a 97 5speed 4x4.

Does it have an overdrive button like the one on my 96. I tow a 13. 500 5th wheel and want to be sure about this trans. I have had no problems to date with the 96 and it has towed at least 50,000 out of the 90,000 on the truck.

I just got my 3500 4x4 SRW 48RE CTD HO last week and I really like it. GOBS of power. VEEEEERY quiet, until you floor it. This truck is vastly different from my '01 2500 CTD LB 4x4. Almost like a car, or nice SUV, but lost a lot of it's big truck feeling. Drag raced a co-worker last night who has a lead foot and chevy with a 350. I kept right up with him, and my turck only has 300 miles on it. With a heavy throttle and when the overdrive shifts in, it seems to have a surge of power at 1400 rpm. Everyone who complains about the past trannys seem to bomb their units. I don't plan to do that, I save it for the other toys! A good friend of mine is the transmission tech at the local Dodge dealer and he said it's not unusual to see people drive in to have their automatics serviced with over 200k on them and they have never been rebuilt. The trucks are stock CTD and V-10s.

My goal is dependablity and reasonable economy. Only time and miles will tell.
