Ok, I read all the old posts on Batteries and my eyes are gettin sore so... ... ... Anyone have anything new to add. Looks like the consensus was Optima Yellow Tops but I really liked the Interstate Group 31 Idea. Also Liked the idea on buildin a box and relocating the batteries to the rail. I figure I have to replace the OEM's before winter. Let's see truck on the road 11-98 hmm damn near 6 years maybe I should stick with the OEM's.

Truck is hard to start and I have been over the fuel system again and again so I am trying a suggestion I read in another thread, besides I teach school at night in a bad area of town and I don't want to have to leave my truck there cause it won't start. :eek:

Tractorface,

I just replaced the original batteries on my '99. After reading all of the posts on batteries, I decided to go with the OEM's. Why? Because I didn't have to alter anything to make something fit, I take the path of least resistance. Didn't want to re-engineer something. After all, these lasted 5 years, they were getting weak but the truck still started without any problems. Going on vacation and didn't want to be stuck in the boonies with dead batteries. And they were only $79. 95 each from the dealer.

Uh Oh

Just checked mine and they are NOT OEM My bad. Anyone that is running the Interstate 31P-MHD answer me one question. Is the 9 3/8" height a problem?

Thanks

Deck height check.

Just get yourself a few pieces of styrofoam. Lay it on top of the batteries and close the hood.

Cut it so the deck height is above what you are concerned with. Say a 1/2 inch additional clearance.

If when you raise the hood again, the styrofoam isn't compressed, you have got the room!! Go for it.

I went with two of the Otima Red Tops and didn't have to change or modify anything. They fit just fine and so far I'm very pleased with them. It's nice to have two batteries that stay clean and dry and not have to worry about battery acid eating holes in your clothes.

Too small

No offense to anyone but I hate to install an under spec. battery. just not sure how long it would last. I really would like the hassle free aspect of the optimas just wish they had more Reserve capacity. Looking for batteries on the web has brought out all sorts of possibilities I never considered. Keep posting expieriences here I am especially interested in how long your batteries have been in service! :)

Looks like reducing heat really helps batteries of all shapes and sizes, for this reason I am considering heavily insulated battery boxes or relocating them altogether.

Why can't I be normal and just go to Pep Boys and ask for the batteries for my truck and call it a day. :{

I always take the hard way with truck parts :{

Those 31's will BARELY fit height and width, with the screw on studs(top post adaptors) you need to insulate the passenger side positive post i used split 3/4" hose with some tywraps to secure it to terminal end of cable. It will touch hood liner and could short to ground unprotected.

But will have a powerhouse worth of amperage!

Has anyone tried interstate battery part # mtp-65 I found it on their web site 875cca 12"lengthx7. 50"wide x 7. 50"high craanking amps 1000 just a thought
