Protecting truck from rock damage

hey All,

Well the wife and I finally did it. Yesterday we purchased a new 5th wheel. 2006 37' Big Horn (model -3400) made by Heartland. http://www.heartlandrvs.com/BH/index.html

If any of you own on or have any information about this rig, please send me your two cents. I think we looked at 5th Wheels for 6-7 months, and hit every RV center in the South East. Of all the fivers we looked at this one seemed to be the best setup for the price, $45,9637,reg $56,237. We found it at the RV show in Pensacola FL. They also through in a free Husky hitch.

Mike,

Congrats on a fine looking trailer. I have a 36' toyhauler (Keystone Raptor) and I see your trailer has advertised very good insulation and It looks lik eit is a full 4 season trailer.

My trailer was advertised as 4 season bot not really, I have a sealed underbelly but one place that I had to modify was the floor that is over the storage compartment. (the floor of the bathroom and bedroom) There was no insulation in this area and in a very hot enviroment, the single 15K BTU A/C could not keep up..... This led to another thing where I bought an extra A/C to mount in the bedroom vent as it was already wired up there for one. I see you live in florida..... If you have this wiring, I would suggest to you to buy one... (a 13. 5K BTU regular style)... as you see we have a 35K BTU Furnace, but only a 15K BTU A/C..... To have the same efficiency as the furnace, you need more A/C... .

here are some pics of my mods on my trailer...

The 2" R-10 foam panels fit inbetween the aluminum rails...

The cabinet beside and above the refrigerator was not insulated from the vent for the fridge... . It was hot in there from the heat of the fridge vent so I put the 2" Foam panels in there as well...

Heres the optional A/C I put in the bedroom vent. I am able to run both A/C's on low running off the 5500 Generator. This trailer has a 50 amp service so that is good as well.

i had another insulation problem,... . The front cap had almost no insulation as you can see the fibreglass cap in the pic... .

Put in several strips of R-18 Insulation batting... so that is now fixed...

So, Look the trailer over very carefully and see anything that might cause a problem...

I replaced all the regular Marker lights for 14 LED Lights that are the same size as stock and really looks good

I bought lights like this for my trailer tail lights. this is a 42 LED Light but I have a 60 LED light.

Heartland's first product hit the streets for the 2005 MY, so there may not be alot of people out there to comment on them yet. I looked at one - local dealer had them sitting side-by-side with an Alfa and it certainly compared in terms of finish and eye appeal. Your floorplan looks good! In the high end market we liked the Mobile Suites lineup the best, but couldn't justify the $ until we get closer to full-timing, plus they would have been real heavy on my SRW 2500.

We ended up settling on a 34' Jayco quad slide 5er that is due to arrive in a couple of weeks.

on edit - looks like you need to update your signature. ;)

Quick question, I have a 2001 Cedar Creek 34 foot 5er and it also has the 50 amp service because it is plumbed for a washer/dryer but doesn't have one... . yet. I'm sure when my wife rubs shoulders with the locals at the laundromat we will probably get one but when I go to a campground what kind of service do I need now. 50 amp or 30 amp?

Thanks,

Stan
