I don't think spraying outside the bowl is as big an issue as getting too much fuel at the outer edges of the bowl. In a constant scenario that would be more damaging than anything due to the structure of the piston. High engine load and high rpm kicks the timing up to the point where there is potentially a lot of heat directly over an area that is not intended to handle it.
Pretty sure once any significant part of the event goes outside the bowl you are going to see a lot of smoke, power loss, and probably some rather loud noises,
