Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) New Bosch overflow valve for P7100 pump

Could i get some help. please? I noticed that the new Bosch overflow valve has a much smaller hole on the end of the valve. My old valve has a hole close to 3/16". Any ideas why they made the change?
