Hey guys,

Well tonight when I got back to the garage to get my pickup,I started to leave the parking lot,and the pedal felt very spongy, and the brake warning light, and abs light came on. I pumped the pedal and regained a fairly firm feel. I attempted to drive home, and noticed any time I hit the pedal it went to the floor and the lights came on. I could pump it up and it felt ok though. I pulled over in a parking lot and checked the reservoir, and the small one in front was really low on fluid. I found a stash of fluid i had in the bed,and proceeded to fill it up. The pedal still didn't feel right, and the lights came on. I limped over to the local repair shop I have used a few times, and left it for them to have a look at it.

My question is what do you guys think it is?Is the small res the rear brakes,or fronts?Oh yeah I climbed under the truck and didn't see anything obviously leaking, but then again it was pretty nasty under there from the wet, slushy roads,so who knows. Any help would be appreciated. Happy Holidays.

Yup, the small reservior is for the rear. I recently had a hard line crack at the flare. The previous owner put a steering stabilizer on and took the hardline out of its hook for clearance and vibration finally got the best of it. You never know what they'll find.

Hey guys,

It turned out to be a leaking master cylinder. $50 for the part, and $75 for the labor, which I could have done, but with the season being such I did not have the time. $120 out the door, and I have my truck back. Thanks for the reply.

Just a few weeks ago I had the same symptoms show up again. I drove the truck over to the shop that did the work back around X-mas of 04. They had it for the day,and found the master cylinder was junk. It was a rebuild part, and they replaced it under warrenty for free. I didn't even have to pay labor which I was willing to do,but I was very happy to not have to lay out anymore cash. I am guessing they should have bought a new part to begin with instead of the rebuild, but I don't really care, unless it fails again when I am out towing the camper.
