Earlier this year, upgraded software calibrations were introduced for the
6. 7L Turbo Diesel to further optimize the reliability of the engine and aftertreatment systems. Updates to the Electronic Control Module (ECM), which constantly monitors a wide range of engine and vehicle sensors and makes real-time adjustments for optimum engine operation, is one way that Cummins continually enhances the engine system's performance.

The new calibrations introduce several enhancements for the aftertreatment system that will make the system even more efficient and robust. These updates enable enhanced aftertreatment regeneration in special conditions such as long idle times or low-speed driving.
New calibrations also boost the performance of our VGT™ Turbocharger. The VGT Turbocharger features a unique patented one-piece sliding nozzle that moves continuously to vary the power of the turbine and the amount of air delivered to the engine. The new calibrations further enhance the VGT Turbocharger's resistance to soot fouling and provide expanded diagnostic capabilities.
In addition, recent calibration updates offer increased Power Take-Off (PTO) functionality for 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cab trucks upfitted with a PTO function. The new calibrations enable user-programmable single-speed remote PTO operation, allowing you to flip a switch to a pre-selected engine speed without having to cycle through various settings.
Many of these updates were included in the calibration update that all owners of early 6. 7L Dodge Ram Turbo Diesels received starting in October 2007. Later calibration updates will be applied to affected vehicles at the next service visit. Chassis cab customers desiring the enhanced PTO functions described above can request a calibration update from their Dodge dealer, which may be completed at the customer's expense.
