found it.

As far back as 98, Chevron delo 400 muligrade was ready for the requirements of engines equipped with egr, api ci-4 cummins ces-20078. It can even be used in powershift transmissions requiring Caterpillar TO 2 or an allison C4 fluid.

Never heard of motor oil in trannys.

thoughts on Premium Blue?

I just picked up 12L of Valvoline Premium Blue 15-40 (still CH-4 on the label) from Cummins for my 2nd oil change at 13800km, along with Fleetguard LF3959 oil filter, FS1268 fuel filter and sample bottle. First time changing the Cummins oil by myself, I need to get a big drain pan from somewhere...

How come nobody seems to talk about Premium Blue on this board? I'm surprised because that's all they carry at the Cummins shop here. I'm going to run dino oil until 20k, then switch to semi-synth and stratopore filters when the analysis says all is OK.

Lots of folks use PB, it's great oil. Main problem with it is that it isn't as easily available as Delo or Rotella. Doesn't help much if you're a quart low and have to drive 100 miles for your brand.

I've noticed a few references seemingly pointing out that it's only the '03 and beyond Cummins used in our trucks that are/will be rated for the 15,000 mile oil change intervals - and above, it was suggested that was due to better materials and technology used in those later engines... YET, here's what Cummins themselves claim for our current, existing 24-valve engines:

"Let's talk durability, dependability and reliability. With an average life-to-overhaul of 400,000 miles*, the 24-Valve Turbo Diesel doesn't have to sacrifice anything to give you the performance and durability you depend on. In fact, this engine is backed by the same 5-year/100,000-mile warranty you've come to expect (warranty handled through your Dodge Dealer).

Dodge Ram has always been a leader in fuel economy, and we're working to make it even better. We didn't stop with the horsepower and torque - the maintenance intervals are longer too! Now you can run up to 15,000 miles between fuel filter changes and 7,500 miles before replacing the oil filter. The engine meets every 2000 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resource Board (CARB) emissions standard without a catalyst or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). "

SOOOoo - looks to ME as tho' we ALREADY have that 15,000 mile capability - at least according to Cummins!;) :D

read it again gary 15000 is the fuel filter. the fuel filters used to have a shorter interval before the vp44. the oil change interval has been extended with the new motor. probably cause much cleaner emissions possible with the common rail injection system.
