Nick,

Ok, I want to back one thing up, the Martensite stuff. I didn't make it up, we consulted with one of our corporate companies, Webb Wheel, talked with their cast iron guru many years ago. Yup, thats Martensite bad stuff and he continued and continued. He actually authored a small write up for us about it. FWIW we are part of Marmon Highway Technologies which includes Marmon and Fontaine and Webb and too many others to list in the family forest.

Good luck and thanks for the pic's.

If Webb Wheel and Drum said it, I believe it 110%!!!!

That is one of, if not the best run and capable company in the USA as far as I am concerned.

It saddens me to see them have to compete against the off-shore junk flooding the marketplace.

Mike. :)

Gary, I have a new truck!! You are 100% right about the hard peddle, (dry throughout bearing slider) night and day. I think it is even easier to push than my '91 and it has alway been easy. I am so glad I listened to your advice and thankful you shared it. My clutch does NOT feel like crap:D

Nick,

Glad you have a new truck. That is a robust design disc, a classic old 8 spring style getting a new home turning on the NV5600.

I think driving a manual should be a bit of fun, not a chore. You need enough pedal effort to create the correct feedback to control the clutch, but it should not feel like a radio volume control with no feedback.

On a side comment. I have replaced the pedal cluster assembly on two '97 F350's and it TOTALLY transformed the pedal feel, engagement point and fun factor because it put the system back into its design rather than the worn out old farm truck feel we started with. Bad cross shaft bushings and a worn M/C pushrod end were the big cuplrits.

Ok Nick, you just replaced the clutch, great. Now as a training issue (which the last one ran 200,000 IIRC) which you don't need, mark the toes of your driving boots with a $$$ on each one. Your new clutch is a one time deposit bank account, your feet make the withdrawls. Spend it wisely.

Now we need an update from Wyomingcowboy on his system.

Thanks and congrats.

Sorry guys... ... been out of state for a few weeks but hopefully I'll get to the hydros tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I have put 500+ miles in the last few weeks and there is no change other than I'm getting better at driving it. At times it's hard to get into gear when idling. The mileage is about the same as before and I've paid close attention to RPM's and MPG's and they are in sync so I'm confident I can rule out slipping.

I have a 2001. 5 HO with Luks clutch and had same problems initially. Ended up changing slave cylinder (larger) and havent had a problem since. Changed in 2003.

I forgot about this thread that I started..... The clutch installed last summer (2012) returned to feeling normal and all was well until 2 nights ago and WHAMMY it was toast! Ill link to the other thread I just started concerning my new clutch. The other had only about 20k on it. The stock clutch had 170k and was still good when I replaced it. It also survived an R&R when I did the engine/trans rebuild back in '09.

Hey Nick, what kind of clutch is this. I like the 8 springs too. Is that a new flywheel, or resurfaced?

That is a Sach's oem-hd clutch kit from O'Reilly, however I just checked their web site and they don't offer it anymore in the organic or any Sach's. They carry Power Torque now. Their ceramic disk is 8 spring but I don't care for a non organic. The flywheel was just surfaced. I think Southbend has the 8 spring hub in their #1947-0 good for 400hp/800tq.

Update: I shared this thread with the OP back in '12. The clutch has a 100k on it and is working fine. It does want to buck a little starting a load when it is hot, but it is fine cold. Even with the Edge Juice on level 5 (400/900) it has not ever slipped. I mostly run on level 2, about like an EZ or (335/800).

I do need to change the clutch in my Ford/Cummins. The conversion uses a standard 12"x10x1-1/8 GM. The stock type won't last at all, it pulls the center right out of them. After some heavy research I think this one will work fine.

Here is a stock type that I have been using, with poor results.
