Is there anything special that I need to know about installing my con FE? Is there a website that has step by step instructions on doing it? I did a search and could only find info for the six speed. Any help would be appreciated.

One thing you'll need is a big jack if you've got the 6er! it's 350lbs+. I just got my con ofe installed tuesday and it really is an awesome kit! It's verry streetable with great manners.

:confused: I have the five speed. Does anyone know how much the transmission and transfer case weigh. I was going to go to harbor freight and pick up one of those transmission adapters you attach to your regular floor jack. Do you think that this will work fine.

The 4500 is right around 200 lbs. Don't know what the transfer case is, it's not that heavy, I usually just man-handle it, I take the transfer case off before I take the transmission out, a lot easier in my experience. THe floor jack adapter will work fine, I wouldn't use it on the 6-speed though :D

Transfer case is about 100 pounds. Remove the flywheel, get it resurfaced with a stone, swirl pattern finish. Press a new pilot bearing in flywheel. Torque flywheel bolts to 101 ft lb. Bolt up the clutch with a centering tool for the disk hub, tighten the bolts gradually in a cross pattern. Clean the disk surfaces, flywheel, pressure plate surface with lacquer thinner.

I'd rent a trans jack to do it. Hopefully you will only do this once in a very great while. Why invest the money their. More bombs :D :D :D

The transmission jack is only 70. 00 bucks at harbor freight so I dont mind spending the money if it will make things a little easier. If I split the transmission from the transfer case wont I loose the oil? I hate to have to replace the oil again especially since i just did it 20,000 ago when my 5th gear went out. That stuff aint cheap. Can it be done with the transmission and transfer case hooked together? Also I assume that i need to take the shifter out from above right. Thanks for the help guys looks like sunday will be the big day.

No, you won't lose any oil when you split them, at least it shouldn't leak if the seals are good. You can leave the oil in the trans, but drain the transfer case before you take it out. I split them more for clearance issues than weight, plus it's hard to balance that whole unit on the jack. Put a little blue loctite on the flywheel bolts also, good insurance! And yes, the shifter comes out the top, if you pull the shifter boot back around the edges, you will see the phillips screws that hold it on. Pull the boot up and unscrew the shifter from the trans, leave the top plate alone. Piece of cake!!:D

Be careful taking off the flywheel, its really heavy and is not held on by a hub. It will probably be stuck slightly- hold on when it comes free.

Hi, my name is Ilian, and I am kind of new to this, but I am really interesting how this process goes with the clutch, as I will probably be replacing my stock clutch. I have 45000 m. on my 6sp. 2500 2WD. I feel it will go bad soon. I heard the South Bend clutch is supposed to be the best choice for most CTD owners. I will be glad to hear how long the clutch job takes and if it is doable by a non-professional. Thanks everybody.

How many people did you have helping?

There were 3 of us under the truck and alot of people just standing around BSing. It helps to have at least one extra set of hands. I put the truck up on 4 six ton jack stands. I was able to use my floor jack and mounted a transmission adapter to it.

Well I just got back from harbor freight. I picked up a transmission jack rated at 800 lb for 129. 00. It looks like it will do the job just hope it goes up high enough since the truck has a 4" lift on it. I just need to pick up some blue rtv selalant, and some locktite tomarrow and I will be set. I am starting to get excited now since the old clutch now slips in every gear with just a tap on the skinny pedal. :{

Then your going to need MUCH bigger injector :-laf

BTW the hardest 200 miles is breaking in the clutch without putting the coals to it :-laf

Tell me more about breaking in the clutch 200 miles with no coals sound like no fun.

They say that alot of shifting and vary speeds, starts and stops and NO BOXES for power no power launches and drive like a grampa. :{ I was able to keep the comp off for the recomened time. I just went for a really long drive one day. Once I hit 200 miles it was box on 5X5 and see how much rubber I could burn :-laf and how much smoke it could make. One way is to lug the moter down to 1200 RPM's and then put the go pedal though the floor board in 6th gear :-laf
