G56 removal/install notes:
Don't forget to remove the washer on the clutch release fork support ball. also don't lose the little retainer clip that holds the clutch fork against the support ball.
Don't overgrease the input shaft, or you'll only succeed in greasing the mating surfaces of the clutch.
Make sure the clutch alignment tool slides easily in the splines before you go to stab the clutch.
Check your rear crankshaft seal and trans input shaft seal while you have everything apart... Now is the time to take care of this.
If doing the job yourself with no help to align the trans I'd say drain the trans and transfer case and remove the transfer case from the transmission. It makes the unit a bit more balanced for when you go to stab it. The g56 is heavy as it is without extra stuff hanging off it
Doing the trans stab by yourself is aided extremely by making yourself a set of guide pins out of a couple of bolts with their heads cut off and ends rounded so that you can get the trans lined up nice when you're gonna stab it.
Also, never attempt to pull the trans into the pilot bearing with the bolts, you could damage the pilot bearing in the process.
Good luck, and have fun!
