I had a bad shudder in my '96 after a new clutch job. Finally it got so bad I was afraid I'd do big damage to the driveline so I had another mechanic tear it down and replace the disc, pressure plate, and flywheel as well as the pilot shaft bearing. The previous installer got the pilot bearing cocked and it was barely supporting the very end of the shaft (actually, the bearing was almost completely out of the flywheel on the crankshaft side). I surmise that the lack of support allowed the shaft to bounce, thereby causing the extreme shudder condition. I'm on my fourth year since then and all is well!
