Revive Turbo and Engine Cleaner

Isuzu swapped Ford F350

When I get my 2016 Tacoma TRD 4X4 Off-road paid for, I might consider this, hopefully there'll be adapters to keep the same drive train.

Fits in a wrangler, that's a good sign.Looks like it has a shallow pan and maybe a bolt on pan(?) on the front

Hopefully Cummins will be able to find a loophole in the emissions certification process so they don't have to tag on a $5,000 exhaust. Kinda like the glider kits in the big rigs.

If enough demand is there, delete kits would become available. *

True, but a delete is another cost to an already expensive system if full blown SCR is mandated. Kind of eliminates it as an option from the budget build types. Not to mention the guys that live in areas that require emissions testing.

I have two patterns of thought here......Diesel conversion is never cheap AND people should vote this emissions BS out of their local areas like we did in Alaska.*

Agree completely on #2 - fortunately we've never had to worry about emissions tests here. Hopefully it stays that way a long time.
On #1 - the budget build was just one example. If I was looking to repower a piece of equipment (or whatever the case) the idea of an addition of a several thousand dollar aftertreatment system on a vehicle that didn't originally require it would be a big turn off.
For example, could you imagine a DPF mid stack on that awesome green Ford in the pictures above?
For some reason, I think Nick would have gone another route :-laf

On a vehicle as old as Nicks, he wouldn't have to worry, even in Comifornia.*
He could have if the ECU wanted all the sensors present and functional. Technically he needed emission equipment for the newer of truck or motor. CA is requiring old diesel commercial trucks to be repowered with newer emission compliant motors.

That's the way I remember the CARB certification, that it was the year of the engine (1990) rather than the truck (1974).

I almost bought a 453T Detroit, I wanted the true "Jake". Per the dealer that engine was no longer on highway certified, however neither one of us really cared about it at the time.

The practical side of using the lil Cummins crate motor.Diagnostics as complex as the current 6.7.No repair shops with any training for how long? How many Cummins dealers will want to help/work on a 20-30 yo jeep etc.Just putting it out there............

I think you get in to that problem anytime you do a drivetrain swap. I'm not taking my Scrambler to the Jeep dealer with a SB Chevy and NV4500. You built it, you've got to maintain it now. Granted, the diagnostics on mine (or the lack thereof) are much simpler than this new crate Cummins.

If the engine ever goes TU in my Land Cruiser a diesel conversion will happen. I would love to get ahold of one of these but not at that price point, and definitely not with all that stuff on the back end.

It just wouldn't look right on a 50+ year old rig o_O

I'd be looking for a 4bt for that rig.

I would check with Cummins about the design parameters of the engine before considering it, especially at $9K:eek:o_O. Normally one would assume a diesel engine would be designed for much longer life than a gasser but that isn't necessarily true anymore. A while back I was shooting the **** with a valvetrain engineer who had worked for Cummins on small engine projects. He said there was a culture clash between Cummins and the companies spec'ing engines for Cummins to design. Most wanted the engines to only last 150K and wanted the engine manufacturing costs kept as low as possible. So depending who's spec that 2.8 was originally deesigned to it might not be the stout, long life design we would normally expect from Cummins. Better to check than to just assume....

@brods thanks for the insight. I am waiting to see how the 5.0L Cummins does driving the HPCR pump off a chain. o_O The Olds 5.7 and 6.2/6.5 GM diesels would stretch out the chain in 30k miles driving a 70's tech low pressure IP. GM Chain Slop allowed is a stunning 0.8" Yeah electronics can adjust some today, but, still. Demand is high enough the aftermarket still makes gear drive kits for the 6.2/6.5 to get rid of the constant adjustment and late valve timing chain.

For most doing 10-15k miles a year, rust, parts availability is generally 10 years, etc... Value engineering 10 years.

I’m still waiting to come across one of these. I’m ignoring the critics, because beyond the cool factor, nobody knows about this little mill. The critics definetly don’t think like the old diesel guard.
IMHO, this one looks not like a Cummins design, and frankly, I’m shocked they let the 5.0 happen. It’s so far out of character for them.
