Diesel Shops in Raleigh NC

Hello all, I bought my first (new to me) diesel in April 2011. It's a 2007 Laramie CTD 6. 7L DRW. Low the truck!! Dedicated tow vehicle. So it sits a lot. I am thinking this is probably not a good thing to let it sit.

Problem: I am hearing a squeal (not a whistle) when I let off the accelerator while driving with the exhaust brake on. It is a sound that is intermittent. I could not reproduce the sound when I took the service advisor for a ride so he could check it out. The truck had 49K miles on it when I bought over a yr ago, now has 58Kmiles on it. The only thing I had done upon purchase was oil change and transmission service. Until now, all that had been done is oil/oil filter and air filter change. Service advisor suggested getting a full diesel clean out.

Any suggestions/advice to address this squeal?

Thanks,

Brooks

Thanks, it is a squeal noise coming from the same side as the exhaust brake. Forgot to mention that it was a little sluggish on a particular hill while towing last trip out.

The dealer told me to do the diesel clean out. Where they "tap" the turbo. . clean it out and check all the nuts. I have searched this forum and unable to find anything on "diesel clean out".

The way they have the EGR set up the inside of the turbo gets a lot soot(? correct term?) in it. Surprise your not getting any codes.

Under warranty the dealer used to replace the turbo but later realized that cleaning it out was cheaper.

Brooks, search/Google for service bulletins 11-001-08 and 11-002-08 dated May 21, 2008. These seem to cover the cleaning procedure for the turbocharger, including the drilling and tapping for addition of the clean out port that you (and I) don't have. There also appears to be an update, 09-002-09, that revises the diagnostic portion of the procedure.

It's a process that I need to get set up to have done myself, as I do have the proper stored turbo DTC (2262) that enables the diagnostic run. (I have no current codes, and my truck is running A-OK, although once in a blue moon the turbo does get stupid and choke off performance for a few seconds. )

Welcome to the forums. Yeah, lots of good info here about mostly Dodge trucks with the Cummins Diesel engines but also on other subjects. bg
