Noobie - Basic Questions

Ok I've been reading the forum for about 3 hrs now, my eyes are about to pop out of my head  I just bought a 99 qc, lwb, 5speed, loaded 4x4, its got 137k on it, i have already put an edge1000 on it, i have a triple gauge A pillar mount, just working on the gauges right now, one ? i have is what is normal egt's, or at what point should i get concerned? Next add on will be a ScottyIIAir system, then SS exhaust. I love the power in this thing, its got the 3. 55 gear in it, but I want more power. . lol. . Ive been a die hard chevy man all my life, i have a built 468 bb in a 79 GMC, 4 speed, 4"lift with 33's, also have a 73 GMC Sprint with a BLown 470 bb, dyno at 618hp@5700 and 635tq@4000, I have that need for speed, but i will be towing with this thing. I have already had the fp checked . . it was 16 at idle, is there any concerns with this mileage doing these upgrades I'm talking about? Thanks for any info. . this looks like an awesome site... Russ

Dodge Makes It... ... Cummins Shakes It... . Feel It Cummin!!!

For prolonged periods 1200* is the max EGT you should goto. But short bursts past 1200* are okay (like on the dyno or racing).

Edit: And welcome to the TDR.

I was talkin to a friend that has the scotty and she said it was loud, but if you dont cut into the firewall its not as bad... but i would think thats what ya want to do to get that cool air... thanks for the reply... Russ

If I'm not going to tow for awhile I'll throw something in to block airflow to the top of the Scotty. This makes it as quiet as stock.

Better prepare the credit card for the trip to the darkside. Bombing is like Pringles, once you pop you can't stop. You will find some guys here with serious power and some with insane power, some are still stockers so what ever you want to do to your truck you can find help. All in all you will get a great bang for your buck being here. Alot of great people and vendors who can help you with anything you want.
