I was able to get a full copy of D/C's new press release on the '03 2500/3500's that was released on September 1st that I put up on the site tonight. I had access to some of the text through the media relations website but none of the charts were working so I had them ship it all to me. There's lots of new unreleased information on there including curb weights, payloads, GCWR, and GTWR ratings; model and option availability; as well as previously unreleased photos. I also put up a payload and tow ratings chart that I edited to include just the Cummins TD models. Here's the link to check it out: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/prelease090102/prelease090102.htm .

I recently saw a brochure for the '03 Dodge 2500/3500 trucks that a buddy of mine got somehow. The tow ratings on the brochure went as high as 16,700lbs or so. Has anyone seen this brochure?

I received a brochure from Dodge in the mail along with a $500 incentive. It has payloads and towing ratings for different configurations of engine, cab, 4x4/4x2, and 2500/3500 (though it does not mention SRW/DWR or auto/manual). Highest tow rating in this brochure is 16,500 for a 3500 4x2 Quad cab with HO Cummins.

For the final ratings, the highest tow is a 3500 SRW 4x2 Quad short bed, Cummins HO/NV5600/4. 10. GCWR is 23,000, GTWR is 16,300.

Tied for 2nd with a 16,200 GTWR are:

- 3500 DRW Reg Cab 4x2, Cummins HO/NV5600/4. 10

- 3500 SRW Quad 4x2 long bed, Cummins HO/NV5600/4. 10

Best 4x4 is 15,850 for:

- 3500 DRW Reg Cab 4x4, Cummins O/NV5600/4. 10

- 3500 SRW Quad 4x4 short bed, Cummins HO/NV5600/4. 10

Payloads

Everybody talks about pullin,' but nobody talks about haulin. ' Trucks do both and some are better at one than the other.

A 2003 long box quad cab Dodge 3500 Laramie 4 x 4 w/Cummins tippy-toes down the road with 2700 lbs in the bed.

A similar-equipped Ford hauls 3450 lbs and a HD Chevy 2500 smokes 'em both with 3931 in the back.

But I still ordered a Dodge:) .

Add a couple of wheels to the back of the Dodge and you will have over 4500 pounds. Also are you sure the Ford and GM comparitors are diesels?

Too many wheels

Four across the back are too many. Won't need to haul often enough to make it worthwhile. Besides, I can't get the dualie through a car wash. Yep, I'm positive about the Ford numbers. Got 'em from the truck manager at a Ford dealer and also out of the sales brochure. Not too secure on the Chevy since the numbers came off the 'Net. But I'll deal with the Dodge numbers. I just hate having Ford friends jerk my chain about having a wimpy truck. Maybe I should challenge 'em to a pulling contest.

One critical factor to consider if you're going to be pulling a 5th wheel. Despite the "trailer tow ratings", a single rear wheel truck will typically run out of GVWR before it runs out of GCWR. This is due to the 18-20% or more of the 5ver's weight that is carried by the truck as pin weight. Looking at the ratings is just a starting point - one has to work through all the math. You'll typically find that, in the case of a 5ver, a dually can handle a larger rig without exceeding any ratings than a SRW truck.

Rusty

Running down the road at 10,380 GVW (10,500 GVWR) and 21,180 GCW (21,500 GCWR).

I work for DC and I saw something in a brochure they handed out at work and it said that the Cummins diesel will be available in 250 hp and 505 hp. Is this true has anybody heard this 505 hp? The CEO said Dodge would have a truck in the 500hp range during his visit last year.

I haven't heard anything about it as far as factory trucks are concerned. In fact, I heard the opposite, that 2003 Cummins engines are going to have more emission stuff on them.

You may be mistaking an ad I saw somewhere (Banks maybe?) that advertised a 500 hp Cummins, but it was a jazzed-up Dakota made to run 200 mph or more.

On the other hand, if you work for DC you may have some kind of inside track. Keep us slugs on the outside posted! :)

Mistake maybe?

kaptn - Are you sure that 505 wasn't referring to 505 lb. ft. ? As in torque? Not H. P. ? Seems I heard rumors about 6 months or so ago that the H. O. Cummins would have 250 H. P. & 505 lb. ft. of torque. I haven't kept up, but I think the press release numbers are more like 275 H. P. & 550 lb. ft. torque. Can anyone else pitch in and correct that if need be?

I think the 2003 HO 6-speed Cummins has 305 HP and 555 ft. /lbs of torque. The auto has something less, but is expected to have the same early next year.

Sorry, I meant to say the 2004 engines will have more emission stuff on them, not the 2003s. I. e. , buy a 2003! :)

I double checked again today and everyone was talking about it. All they listed was horsepower not torque. Is it a misprint? I dont know. I do know we knew about the Dakota R/T before anyone else. I went to order one from the dealer and he thought I was nuts. I dont know where to verify this.

I'd say keep your ears open :D :D :D

This is for kaptn ... I think there is confusion in the ranks somewhere. The new HO Cummins generates 305 hp and 555 pound-feet of torque. The standard output Cummins generates 250 hp and 460 pound-feet of torque. I doubt seriously that CD is going to introduce a 555 hp engine for street use anywhere. I think somebody is confusing torque with horsepower.

Under Heading DODGE RAM 2500/3500 ENGINES:5. 7- liter Hemi Magnum V-8(345 hp); 8. 0-liter Magnum V-10 (305 hp); Cummins Turbo Diesel (250 hp and 505 hp). Our head boss over North America did say last year that Dodge would have a 500 hp truck but he said it would probably be the Viper motor. hmmm maybe an RV motor? I dont know for sure dangit!

I have long wondered why CD hasn't offered the Cummins in RVs, vans, etc. I would have bought one in a heartbeat a few years ago.

There's just no low-priced motorhome out there that offers a diesel. Those of us who love diesel-powered vehicles are stuck with a Dodge 2500/3500 and a trailer or 5th-wheel.

I know plenty of people who can't afford a pusher but don't want a trailer, so they buy an RV with a Ford engine in it. That tells me CD is losing business. But what do I know? I just listen to buyers.

ho

the sales guy at the dealer and also at another dealer told me the samething and !

thats is that 03 will be the last year for the HO because of emissions?

????? dont know time will tell?
