new diesel cars

According to the news on tv, the car makers are introducing several diesel cars at the car show this year. Some of them even pass the kalifornia test. It will be interesting to see how this plays out as far as diesel prices. I wonder if the added demand will cause diesel to be made more available for domestic use (and bring diesel prices down), or increase the pressure on the supply and drive prices up. (with the continuation of domestic diesel supply being sent to europe)

I think it will drive prices down as more and more emphasis is placed on domestic oil production. Diesel is already almost the exclusive fuel in this country with the exception of personal cars/light trucks and outdoor power equipment. There is no reason it cannot happen in those two areas also!

Personally, I see diesel prices going up with the increased demand (albeit minuscule in all reality), rather than down. It's anybody's guess though...

It seems with more vehicles competing for the supply, without an increase in production fuel prices have to rise.

Just curious if you remember which automakers are planning to do that? I heard Honda had a diesel but was only certified for a man trans. , so they didn't bother. Subaru, Toyota were others that didn't pan out.
