Hi TDR..... I am new here. Long time RAM truck owner, first time Diesel owner. I purchased a 2012 RAM 2500 Laramie automatic with about 25k miles on it. We have had it about 3 weeks now. I love it. Geeze this thing has bells and whistles I haven't even discovered yet. We have a small toy hualer that my 2003 HEMI would tow.... but it was NOT happy about it. LOL. I haven't towed with the 2500 yet.... but I'm looking forward to keeping up with traffic, especially on the hills. I have added a spray in Rhino liner, Access Limited Roll bed cover..... and Edge Evolution programmer/dash pod. I'm not sure what else, if anything, I'll add. I have to say the Edge programmer really feels good.... initially I set it to level 3 for performance, but I'm sure I'll set level 1 for economy 80% of the time..... level 2 for towing the remainder. Thanks for listening! I am looking forward to learning from you all.

"Edge Evolution programmer" Be careful with this. If you have any engine/drivetrain issues, your warranty is probably gooooooooone.

Yea don't want to freak you out but Chrysler can tell if you had a programer and you will be SOL. So cross your fingers for no need of warranty assistance.

You won’t even know that toy hauler is behind you when tow it. I have a 5,000 lb. travel trailer I towed with a half ton 5.3 Chevy and it didn’t like towing it also...Lol. When I got my new 2013 2500 CTD...WOW...What a difference!!! You will be impressed when you tow your toy hauler. The first time I had to pass a semi truck with towing the trailer and new truck...Not a problem at all..Enjoy that new truck and welcome to TRD!!!!

Welcome to TDR, I found this site in 05, after my purchase of my 04.5. Over the years I've learned a lot about the Cummins and my trucks here in TDR. Word of caution on programmers, they cost lots of dollars in upgrades for the Cummins and drive train to stay healthy. They Void your warranty and you lose support from the dealers, unless you pay their outrageous rates, if their willing to work on it. They have us by the xxxxx when ECM's require updates and other issues with the computers. Personally, I don't understand the need to run programing when the stock power is awesome right out of the box. BTW, your next move BEFORE you tow is to install an EGT probe and gauge before the turbo, running your programer can cause your EGT to soar beyond the designed tolerance.

Welcome aboard. This forum isn't as active as the other forums but you won't get the Craiglist 'Rant and Raves" type here. Most of us here, put on our pants one leg at a time and try to enjoy life and our CTD's.

The quarterly mag that TDR puts out is great and I read every issue cover to cover. I was also lucky enough last year to have a picture of my truck chosen to make the TDR calendar!

TDR used to have a contest where a member could win some pretty cool freebies from Geno's garage but that went away some time ago. I wished they would bring that back (ARE YOU LISTENING ROBIN??)

Enjoy your truck kcpolk. Dodge/Ram Cummins turbo diesel trucks are truly legendary.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and advice. I don't plan to hot rod the truck. Just daily driver and light to medium towing. I had concerns about the programmer too. But I just figured I'd unplug it if/when it goes to the dealer. I didn't know they can tell it had a programmer if I went back to stock tune and removed it?!?!?!?! I have to say the Edge really came highly recommended and WOW does it make a difference. It will never see level 4. Like I say, probably high percentage on Econo mode..... the rest in tow mode. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again everyone!

Make sure timing is set to "stock".
