transmission troubles

Oil change preference 2014 2500

Guess i will just start off with saying that this is my first diesel truck so still figuring everything out about it. Still hoping i didn't make a mistake with it but i ended up trading my 98 Jeep Wrangler for a 98 Dodge 3500 4x4 12 valve cummins. Truck has right at 300,000 miles on it but ran and drove good on the way home. I know there are going to be some things that i need to do to it. Was told the truck had the transmission rebuilt with a stage 2 torque converter with billet inards and the fuel pin had been turned up about 5 degrees. Other than that it is stock. The truck is mainly going to be used as a daily driver and to tow our 30ft camper and our offroad jeep around with.

Most everything seems to be working fine on it so far but there are still a couple things that i have questions on.

1. The waste gate was found rusted off and laying on the frame rails of the truck. I can still hear the turbo spooling up but didn't know if this was something i should look into replacing or if it will work fine without it.

2. When starting it will crank over but won't really try to start till i depress the gas pedal a little bit. Is there something that i can do to maybe help it start a little easier?

3. Im looking at putting the 285/75/16 BFG at tires off my excursion onto it before we sell the excursion. I figured i would have to put spacers in the rear for the tires to clear but will they mount up on the stock dually rims without problems?

4. What are some of the main gauges that i should put in the truck to keep track of what it is doing? Was thinking maybe a fuel pressure gauge and trans temp but didn't know if there was anything else that i should be monitoring.

Basically im just looking for items that i should be making sure are working correctly or things that i should be looking at to make sure they don't fail. Like i said never had a diesel truck before so just trying to learn the ropes with them.

Any input would be great.

Thanks,
Ben

Your truck does not have a fuel pin, that would be a first gen pump upgrade.Needing to hold the pedal to start could be low fuel pressure or low idle speed. Not sure what you found on the frame rail, was it the actuator? The standard gauges that most install would be the pyrometer, boost and trans temp if it has an automatic.

Fuel pin? may be the star wheel but don't know how you would get 5* Does it put out a good lot of smoke? this would indicate a rich fuel delivery WOT.
