Ok,enoughs enough......I give up....

Happy Birthday, yogibear!

Thanks for the update Ram4Sam. I just got back into town from Thunder in Muncie late yesterday afternoon. I also got the email from them and when I saw this post I started looking into it immediately. I went through all of the log files, error reports, etc and found no indication at all that anyone had hacked into the system and gotten the email addresses off of here. Our system is very tight security wise and there's no way for users to get other users email addresses even - all you can do is email someone from our system. I even checked to see if that was done - it wasn't. I wonder where they got them from!?

I've heard that there are programs that scan the net for e-mail addresses. If you've included your e-mail in any of your posts, it could have gotten it that way.

I might be WAY off on this but it's something I remember hearing.

Each states motor vehicle registration is in the public domain and many firms use them for research. I've done so myself. No problem to find out who owns what, name and address. From there I can't say how they would find e-mail addresses.

Had to come from Dodge-Diesel.org

I too received the email about the new web site, and it came to my work email address. Now the only place I have my work email address is at Dodge-Diesel.org ... . so they must of either sold their information to someone or someone must of hacked that site to obtain all the subscriber's email addresses.

Is nothing sacret anymore!!!

dd.org has neither sold the info, nor has the site been hacked. That site is also secure email wise. If you check your profile over there, email addresses are invisible in the profiles, except to the member and administrator. Spiders can't get that info, and they're not sold to anyone. All members who register on any of these sites also have the option to hide their email address. On some sites, if you don't use that option, then spiders (spambots) can go to those sites and pull them from the pages. There really isn't any kind of "hacking" involved.

Also, whenever people register on a site, they really need to read the privacy policies and registration agreements. Many of them will explain exactly what you need to do to avoid these situations.

I have not received this email and I am registered at all of the sites mentioned. Not a big deal.
