Today I experimented with making a new pin and bushing. This is way more heavy duty than needed but it'll last.
The small brass bushing in the NAPA repair kit... ... ... ... Come on. What a joke. The hole the brass bushing fit to is worn out as well.
I r eplaced the upper pin and bushing with the NAPA set. I replaced the lower pin w/a 4. 5 " long 1/2" bolt. Drilled for grease and a press-in grease zerk in the bolt head.
3" long 3/8" black pipe. The 1/2" bolt will fit very tight and will need polishing for a slip fit. I welded the 3/8" pipe in place of the small brass bushings. The black pipe takes place of the brass and is like 600x the serface area.
Two 1/2 inch washers, one on each side of the pipe, serve as shims and I spot welded the bottom of the bolt to the other hinge half.
ZERO play in the door. Philip is always grabbing truck doors and shaking them. Wait till he tries to wiggle this one.
