Today I experimented with making a new pin and bushing. This is way more heavy duty than needed but it'll last.

The small brass bushing in the NAPA repair kit... ... ... ... Come on. What a joke. The hole the brass bushing fit to is worn out as well.

I r eplaced the upper pin and bushing with the NAPA set. I replaced the lower pin w/a 4. 5 " long 1/2" bolt. Drilled for grease and a press-in grease zerk in the bolt head.

3" long 3/8" black pipe. The 1/2" bolt will fit very tight and will need polishing for a slip fit. I welded the 3/8" pipe in place of the small brass bushings. The black pipe takes place of the brass and is like 600x the serface area.

Two 1/2 inch washers, one on each side of the pipe, serve as shims and I spot welded the bottom of the bolt to the other hinge half.

ZERO play in the door. Philip is always grabbing truck doors and shaking them. Wait till he tries to wiggle this one. :DOo.

Its a Dodge Scott. I can bend the door pretty easy if needed. :-laf:-laf

Ask Bill. I adjusted his door on the white truck when I picked up the turbo off of him. Took about 30 seconds. Bill's expression. = Then he said I wish I had known it was that easy. :D

NO, sorry. No pictures. I enjoy performing a documentary, but it takes extra time to stop at each step and shoot a photo.

I suppose if you don't weld, find a friend who can/will and give instructions to replace the two (very) small brass bushings with a section of 3/8" steel pipe and the pin is replaced with a 1/2" dia. bolt, drilled for grease passage. ;)

It took me a day to do it, but now I figgure I can trim it down to a few hours.

I know what Phillip is talking about. If I lift up on the door enough, the door bends as the metal where the hinge is fastened to isn't all that heavy. So, yeah, I can get movement, but it's not due to slop in the bushing(s)

Cool fix man.

Whatever happened to the "mystery man" that used to post here? He sold some kind of replacement hinge. In my hours of searching I came across it.

I do not know. He had them. Greasable too. Wish I had a set last weekend. I remember he would advertise them here on the open forum.

I heard he had/has health problems. I haven't seen any posts in quite a while. I hope he is doing ok.
