My truck is at the Dodge dealer and they diagnosed my problem as a bad ECM. I got a reman from cummins, they didn't offer a new one, for $870 after core returned and took it up to Dodge. They called this morning and said they had it on but they couldn't get it to talk with their computer and didn't know what to do so they have to wait until Monday to talk with Cummins/Chrysler. They said the part numbers matched and didn't see anything wrong. They also said that they haven't ever replaced an ECM on a Cummins.

I bought an ECM reman from a cummins distributor, when I got it, it has a tag in the box that says it has not been calibrated. When you ordered yours did you have to give the VIN? Read my thread, may be on the next page now. Where are you located, my Dodge dealer has also never done an ECM on a cummins. I know the service manager and he wants to do mine just for the experience.

PM me if you would rather.

I called the dealer again and asked if they had calibrated it before trying to load the info on it and they said the problem was that they couldn't calibrate it because they couldn't get it to talk to their computer.

Well, the dealer got ahold of me today and said they had talked to Cummins. The way I understand it they program the ECM through the Dodge PCM. Cummins says that after talking with the service manager that I have to take it back down to Cummins and let them program it before dodge can do anything with it.

Quote from KatDiesel on a thread I started about my ECM dilema

They all come blank now.

"Mopar is currently phasing out pre-programmed Cummins Diesel Engine Control Modules (ECM). New modules will no longer be preprogrammed when received from Mopar. Replacement of future ECM's will require programming utilizing the DRBIII and MDS2. 1998 1/2 - 2002 modules will cause the "Wait to Start" light to flash, indicating the module has not been programmed"
