Darkhorse... did your oil pressure gauge work normally after the new ECM. Seems like the latest reflash's put the guage at the center mark with any positive pressure (kinda like an idiot light) and don't show the real pressure.

Mike

Yes, it seems unchanged.

YUP - I too ordered a backup ECM from that outfit - put it on the truck to check it out, and it's still in there! The other, OEM one, is now my spare...

But now, I'm looking for a PCM too, also for a spare...

Yeah. . me too. I was thinking of a junk yard but you don't see too many Dodge/Cummins. Do you think the PCM from a Dodge 2500/3500 gasser would work?

Mike

I seriously doubt it - these electronic control computers seem to be very year model/engine/transmission specific - that's what took me over a year to find the ECM for my truck - I ended up buying several ECMs from other year models on Ebay, and was able to sell them at also very low prices, but more than I paid for them, and used that money with another year PCM I had got in a ECM/PCM package for another year truck, and swapped it all out for the exchange ECM I finally ended up with in my truck. Took lots of manipulating - but I finally got my spare ECM pretty much free - and several guys got excellent buys on the ones I passed on... ;)

On the PCM you have to get one with the same last 5 numbers/letters in the part number. I am looking for a 286AD to fix a problem I have with the OD off button not working. It lights the light on the dash, but the solenoid lead does not go all the way to float voltage. So the OD solenoid will not drop taking it out of OD. My DTT smart controller shifts it fine and a manual switch I installed shifts it fine, so it is the PCM.

If someone has a damaged/shot 47RE auto PCM, I sure would like to look inside it before diving into mine. SNOKING

Interesting. I was hoping the PCM might be a little more generic than that but guess not.

Well. . since the Dodge doesn't actually work anymore (we're no longer full-time RV'ers) I can take my time. I've accumulated a lot of spare parts but need some of the big ticket items (VP, ECM, etc).

Thanks for the info guy's. The search continues... .....

Time is in your favor. You can send them your PCM or ECM to be repaired for around 200 bucks I think. Takes a few weeks to get it back. Call them and check on that.

i copied this from bluechipdiesel.com "The ECM and OEM Injectors and Cam Sensor never give any problem in my experience. In fact I have never even heard of these components being bad, even at crazy high mileages, so they don't need further consideration, unless this diagnostic sequence fails to cure your problem. "

blue chip diesel says he has never seen or heard of an ecm failing in the 1998. 5 to 2002 trucks

There have been perhaps a half-dozen or so varied ECM problems/failures reported here on TDR - perhaps it would be more accurate to get ECM failure issues from an ECM-type marketer, such as TDR's Bob Wagner...

Chip is quite knowledgable but for some reason, mine died just short of 100,000 miles.
