2005 injector replacement

Hey Guys;

I'm planning on having a new ECM installed in my 05.

I'm running a Smarty Touch with a towing tune used when towing. When I'm not towing I return the truck to stock software.

I've tired to contact Mads in regards to this change out .... with no luck.

Is there anything I need to be aware of? .... or a process? lock, unlock VIN? ... that kind of stuff.

Thanks so kindly in advance,

Carl

I run an older version of Smarty (Smarty S03). I would think that you would definitely want to unlock the Smarty before replacing the ECM. This will return the ECM to factory programmed status.

Thanks guys for taking the time to reply to this thread, it's greatly appreciated.

I was finally able to connect with the support guys at Mads via email. I'm attaching a PDF of the email thread I've had with Mad's so far, as well as their VIN License Request form.

I'm going to get back to them regarding the VIN License Request. I'm wondering why I would need that being that my Touch was locked to the existing ECM and the fact that the new ECM coming from Napa will have the same VIN information pre-loaded in it.

Oh well, we'll see how that shakes out. I'll update the thread once I get that straightened out.

Thanks again,

Carl

Here's the latest info. As it turns out the Tuner locks to two ID's, the vehicles VIN and the ECMs Serial Number.

Here's a quote from my email thread with the Mads staff ....

The Smarty VIN license locks to 2 things. The VIN number and the ECM serial number. Anytime either of those 2 things changes you need a new VIN license. Attached are the instructions for how to get a new VIN license. Sorry I thought I had send those already but must have forgot.
Thanks,

Once again, thanks for getting back to me.

I'm a little confused at this point. If the the new ECM is coming with the trucks VIN preloaded, why wouldn't the Touch recognize it as the existing ECM?... it's the same truck ... with the same ECM, theoretically?

If I'm reading your last reply correctly, the Touch will not recognize the ECM as being the original, right? ….. requiring myself to install a “new VIN License” as stated below, correct?

If in fact that is correct, then what is the procedure to obtain and install a new VIN License?

Kind regards,

Carl

I'm in the process of getting the the new license. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
