I got my new Mach 1. 5's installed this afternoon. My hat's off to you guys who can swap sticks in under an hour. My first try took a lot longer, but I'm not saying how much longer.

I never could find a comfortable way to sit on the motor. The job wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the tight clearance under the cowl working on those tight fittings by #'s 5&6. My knuckles are nicked up but the new sticks are in.

The truck started up on the second crank & smoothed right out. I put about 20 miles on the new set up.

I've sure got no complaint about the power delivery. It feels very strong & responsive. I never was able to use WOT. but 2/3's or so was breaking the rear wheels loose on the gravel at 40 mph.

The only thing bothering me is the black smoke. I'll try unplugging the EZ tomorrow to see what that does.

You don't have to "unplug" the EZ just move the jumper to the lowest setting and see if you like it there, you can control smoke with your right foot if you really try..... lol

Craig

The jumper is on the low setting. I did notice there is some right foot control of smoke. With just the EZ on jumper #1 I was puffing a small amount of smoke. With the mach 1. 5's I can make a significant black cloud. I wonder if there is a chance Don sent me larger injectors by mistake.

Check all the usual problems before you just figure it's the injectors. The intercoller hoses and any other related boost leaks, including the silicon washers on the grid heater and it's aluminum plugs, then the IAT senser and the Map senser, If these are all good then It's up to you. I have had many boost problems that only showed up under inspection Like...

1. Hole in the intercooler

2. Blown out silicon washer on top of grid heater

3. Blown off or leaking boots

Try to pressure test the system, I've noticed a increase in smoke with all boost leaks. Also had a Map senser that set a code 0236 Map senser voltage too high, It was basically telling the ecm that I had about 10psi boost with the truck not running but the key on, therefor it fueled hard when ever you touched the pedel, With the 275 injecters and the comp it smoked more off the line then when I added the BD3's  Good luck hope any of this helps

Jared

you might have a boost leak. The mach 1. 5's are very clean burning injector.

something is not right :( If you need help just let me know

I unplugged the EZ leaving just the boost fooler plugged into the MAP senser. That cut way back on smoke. I'll check for other possible leaks. Thanks for the input.

I'm sure this has been covered many times before, but any idea how much boost Darkhorse should be seeing? With my ETC, I've seen 28 psi max unloaded. I haven't had a chance to tow anything since I installed the injectors 2 weeks ago. My EZ is on the lowest setting. I am seeing a good bit of smoke on average acceleration. Mike

Mike, 28 lb. psi is almost exactly what I top out at. Pressure rises very fast to that point & stops. I was getting a lot of smoke with the EZ on low. I unpluged the 3 pin connecter leaving just the boost fooler function. That cleared most of the smoke. I tried towing my gooseneck horse trailer up a steep coulee road today. The rig almost flies up the hills & the best part, I saw NO SMOKE! I'm guessing the extra load brings the boost up where the extra fuel is burned. I like the way the truck runs with just the EDM's better than just the EZ. Together the power felt awesome & I'm sure I could tear out the stock clutch. She'd spin the rear wheels in the gravel traveling 40 or 50 mph just blipping 2/3's throttle. It's real fun but I don't want to live with that much smoke.

Hey, no money back offer required here. Darkhorse, thanks for the clarification on the boost and glad to hear about your towing success. The performance is exactly what I was looking for. Expensive? Well, try to get 100 hp from six or seven hundred bucks with a gasoline powered vehicle(without nitrous). That's how I put it in perspective. Have a great day.

smokin' EDM's

I tried my new EDM's under some different conditions today. I transported a horse in my heavy gooseneck slant load trailer up & down a steep coulee road. i also did a short level highway trip at a steady 60 mph bucking a gusty head wind. The power delivery with the new sticks is very smooth. If I'm easy on the throttle 'till I get about 10 lb. psi boost, I can stomp on it all the way with no smoke. If I goose it at less than 10 lb. I get some smoke that clears as the pressure rises. The highway run netted the best milage figures I've seen with my truck ( 22. 5 mpg )

Rip tells me that with my EZ un plugged I should get no smoke at all. He thinks I must have a boost leak ( which I can't find ) or I messed up some how on the install. I guess I have to go back under the valve cover & check torque on the injector clamp bolts & check to see that the fuel cross over tubes didn't get dinged up. I had a rough time getting my hands on things around # 6. If I screwed up it's probably back there.

If anyone has any insight on my smoke problem, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Darkhorse

FYI & for what it's worth - I can get a strong puff of black smoke from my 1. 5's before the turbo spools up (this is with my PM3 set to EZ power setting). I'm at 650'. It's not a big cloud but still a good sized puff. I think this is to be expected and goes along with bigger injectors.

When I had a EZ(set on low) and DD2. 5's I could throw a cloud of smoke that some people behind me actually were driving around.

You may have a air leak also but if smoke disappears when turbo kicks in - that sounds about right.

I think your boost numbers are little low. I can get 35-36 psi easily running solo even down around 1700 rpm. Our trucks are similar, and even though you're running a little smaller injector than me, I still think you should be around 35 psi. under full load.

BTW, I run a stock turbo with an Edge boost elbow on the set-up in my sig.

I plugged the EZ back in this am. on #3 ( big smoke & lots of go). on #1 (less smoke still lots of go). The smoke dissapears above about 10 psi. The power is awesome. I tried blipping the throttle about 2/3 while in 5th at 1500 or so. She took of but I think the clutch started slipping as the revs rose faster than the truck. I'm unplugging the EZ when I finish my coffee. Back to the EDM's. Rip tells me they shouldn't smoke at all without the EZ. If I can't clear it up going back over my install, he's going to send me a different set of sticks just to make sure their right. Can't beat that for service. The man's a gem to do buness with.

call me a dummy...

but who's Rip? Does he have anything to do with Don M. ? My adrenaline is flowing reading this subject. I think that mean I want to step up from my RV275's to EDM's. Is there a website I can read additional info on the EDM's. Thanks for helping out ole slow JyRO...
