Just got back to Albuquerque NM from Las Vegas NV pulling my 6k lbs TT. Got a CEL while in LV and found the closest dealer was Towbin Dodge. Having seen their "reality" TV show a few years ago, I was somewhat concerned.

My Edge Insight told me it was codes P1451 and P042E for soot acumulation due to stuck EGR and the dealer verified that. They replaced it with the following:

68026995-AB, Valve EGR 14038024

68005465-AA, Gasket NO 14062002

I had the truck in 10/04/10 at 12,562 miles for a new DPF and my local dealer claimed to have cleaned the EGR then. I now had 15,799 at this time. Towbin said they had this updated EGR design a while now and just put it in instead of cleaning the old one. Seems I got better service at Towbin than my local dealer and they washed the truck (something neither local dealers have done).

I just showed up at 7:00 am and told them I was on vacation with the wife and kid at the campground and would appreciate them looking at my truck ASAP. They had me on my way by 10:00 am.

Needless to say, I was very pleased with Towbin... though I did not see Chopper or the Blue Genie.

All I can say is what is making your egr valve stick with such low mileage??? Are you using the exhaust brake all of the time and have you seen the 98 per cent full message and see dealersip asap, did your truck go into limp mode?? My truck did this 3 times while racking up 100,000 and plugged dpf it has right now in the front yard parked. Are you aware that the dpf replacement is prob around $2200 just for the dpf, the egr valve was about $600 last week when i tried to find one at several dealerships, did they keep your old egr valve by the way?? You should call them and ask them to send it to you for cleaning and a spare to carry with you for the next time. I just cleaned mine and it is a joke what they charge to clean and reinstall, very simple job with soap and some baby bottle brushes and and an air hose, its a sin that Dodge has not been cited by the DOT and EPA for not carrying rebuilt/exchange units for purchase and also the tossaway dpf unit that prob could be powerwashed and run again after retesting for regen. Wait unitl this happens to you again, you ought to insist on the delaership sending your last dpf back to you so you could powerwash it and have it on the shelf if you get another plugged up dpf, after all, the dpf was yours and not property of Dodge, they prob dragging around getting an exchange program out and i would not be surprized if they sell me your Rebuilt dpf or somebody else on here down the line. I am at 112,000 and not beleiving any of this nonsense the many different service manangers have been spewing out, they cant get the story right on what is making these trucks have premature dpf failures and stuck egr valves, if the DOT, EPA knew Dodge had all of these problems and many trucks are running around plugged up they prob recall them all and make them fix this flawed system or at least make Dodge keep parts in stock so if a 6. 7 screws up one can go in and get it fixed with something instead of the same old replace parts until it works on Dodges dime and when its the customers dime try to sell them more of the same failure prone egr system that should have not been let loose on the public. If somebody had told me this 6. 7 would need a dpf replacment 2 times beofre warranty ran out and no better dpf maintiance available and egr valve cleaning or replacment was $600 to $800 I or nobody else would have bought these trucks. I am looking over the dpf delete kits, the egr block off kits and egr cooler kits as i found this post, how many of the 6. 7's have had all of this go so wrong?? I bet there way more then many think and i am happy to know some dont have the problems, but for those who do this truck is nightmare and dangerous, mine almost burned up my ranch, has broken down many many times and had to be towed and now is broke down out of warranty and is forcing me to just delte everything and go controller and delete kitlol Crazy aint it?? Ought to be a law!! Good luck on your truck, keep us updated on how long the egr goes and if you get your old one back for a spare toolbox set up.

I did not think at the time to ask for the old EGR. Good idea!

About 50% of my miles is towing the TT (that is what the truck was purchased for and I have a 91 Jeep Cherokee with 180k miles that is my DD).

The Towbin service advisor claimed I should not have the problem again with the new design EGR but we will see. I was not aware there was a "new" EGR valve and thought others might also benefit from that knowledge since my local dealer said nothing about it a few months ago.

Since I have low miles, it was covered under the 5yr/100k mile engine warranty, but once that is gone, I fully plan on deleting what I can.

Still waiting to get a new design turbo... under warranty... maybe next month!

What about the alleged new design egr, is that really true?? I sure hate to think i did not get the new one installed right before mine plugged up, does anybody know what the difference is between the new design and the old design if there is any??? I am wondering if the 07 6. 7, the 08 6. 7. the 09 6. 7 have the same egr valve???? Dont guess anybody has seen them aftermarket or rebuilt exchange or even a pdf rebuilt anywhere yet???

I would also like to know if it really is a new design.

I am not sure if the dealer was being straight with me or not.

Could it be a new/improved design with the same dodge part number or would they have another number?

I can try to snap a picture of the new one this weekend if that would help. I should probably take several for future reference of work said and actually done. :-laf

The "New" design EGR valve came out on 1/29/2009. If you had your ERG valve replace after 1/29/2009 you already have the new design EGR valve. You will not be able to tell if you have the new design valve just by the outside appearance, the change is internally. The change is a shield that they put on the valve shaft to try to keep soot from accumulating on the shaft and causing the valves to stick. My experiance with the new design EGR valve is that it is almost as bad as the old style EGR valve as far as sticking, "But" the problem is not a design flaw of the EGR valve, it is a high soot load issue most of the time.
