Scheid diesel has my truck and they are getting ready to basically rebuild it, they are going to send the head off and get it redone and they are going to put in all new bearing and rings, they have put in new injectors and an injector pump which is what it went in for before they found more problems.

My question is: They said my bill is probably going to be $5,000-5,200 that is without replacing the 53 block which I do have. Does anybody know what a new engine costs or a short block even, because if it is pretty close to the same, I would think I would be better off going that way especially if I am going to replace the block. I say all this because if I got a new one I assume there would be a warranty where as if they rebuild it I don't know if there is any warranty on the engine itself, I know the injector pump has 1yr warraty though.

Sorry this is so long, and I hope it makes sense.

Some replies would be appreciated since I need to make a decision by early next week

thanks,

Cory

Call your local Cummins dealer and see what a Recon. Short Block would cost and what kind of warranty they offer. You could also ask about a New Short Block and warranty.

I wouldn't rebuild a 53 block. I would either get a different block and have Scheid do the work or purchase a new engine from Cummins. No use investing $$ in an engine that may go bad at any time.

What all comes with the short block? just rods, pistons, crank and all the bearings of course and I just keep my head, turbo and fuel system right
