This may be old news. I was at a local Dodge here in Colorado Springs talking to the service manager about a body shop. He had a printout from Chrysler that had a list of new models and changes to current ones. The new engine will deffinatly be a 6. 7 Cummins and the transmission will be a 6sp Aisen auto. I believe that Aisen makes the autos for several models already even though they amy be called something else. He wouldn't tell me if it is new for 07 or late o6; I'm guessing that he didn't know. He also didn't have anything to say about performace figures. He said Cummins for sure and no Mercedes except for the Sprinter and maybe a couple of other models. Interesting.

I think the we need to have a new forum called "Rumors" to be added to the site for the next 6 to 9 months until the new 2007's do come out.

This way we can consolidate all this in its own forum and not get off track in the current 3rd gen forums.

What do ya think Mr. Moderator?

I agree with this. Almost all you see in the 3rd Gen forum anymore is " 6. 7L Cummins?" Or "MB Diesel in 2010?!" Not that I appreciate people keeping their ear to the ground for up and coming things... but it gets a tad repetative after awhile. :)

Rumor? I read the list myself. It was a CHRYSLER document. So do you even know the deffinition of Rumor? If not here it is, "a story or statement in general circulation without confirmation or certainty as to facts". Well I saw the confirmation in writing and was also told by a Service and Parts director at a Dodge dealership that this is the next engine and trans for the Third Generation Trucks. Oh yea isn't this the third gen forum.

Here is the problem, DC lies to the dealers more than they do to the general public. I have no doubt that you are accurately reporting what you saw. In fact I believe this was legitimate document sent from corporate DCX to dealers. What I have trouble believeing is that the document was correct.

Just because something is in writing does not make it true.

My dealer went to a Chrysler show and came back with the same information jungledave has. It mite be true!

There is a diesel power war going on between the big three!

Every thing starts out as a rumor. Some happen.

Well ... if a new 6 speed auto transmission is to come out, why wouldn't MB go with one of their own. Take a look at this http://www.sterlingtrucks.com/Core/Pdf/AGS_brochure.pdf

It's an auto-shift. Seems like it would be something you automatic transmission guys like ... me, I only will purchase a manual transmission and hopfully a 7-speed will be offered at some point.

Also ... the info the dealers are coming back with from the auto-show could be dis-imformation in order to stir up anticipation from the public.

Rumors are considered lateral communication and are mostly true. Except for a few word misunderstandings here and there, they're considered to be one of the best forms of communication and easily flow from one person to another with out any kind of censorship. All this came out of my public administration class I had recently.

Despite that, I did read the link to the web site explaining the reason for the larger engine. Makes sense but it doesn't look like the current Cummins will be replaced any time soon. They're just making a truck for those that require more capacity for towing larger loads.

Yeah, baby!!!

The other interesting thing is that the article says the 4500/5500's will be equipped with a NV5600.

"The Cummins "B" 6. 7 liter engine will provide motorvation, while the NV5600 six-speed manual transmission and an automatic will put power to the wheels"

I won't buy one right away, but it'll be nice to know that they are there. Almost.
