Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) New Engine

As posted in another thread, the number one piston in my engine "tansfered material"... It was a CA 180 HP engine w/the 2308 CPL. It appears that CPL is an odd one from what I've read through the archives.



I bought a new 210 HP crate motor and it came without a data plate, serial number (or any other documentation). I know this is going to sound strange but, what I am wondering is what or where do I come up with the right numbers. I called the vendor and was told to just use my old CPL... That and restamp my data plate to reflect the HP change.



Any information or clues would be greatly appreciated!

Look on the block for a stamping above where the oil cooler/oil filter mounts to the engine block. .



Call a Cummins Distributor and ask for a parts research specialist.

Give them all the info you can about the crate motor. . "210 Crate Motor" was it for an industrial or RV application?



If RV, find a large RV diesel repair center and maybe they'd recognize your crate motor or let you compare it to others in for repair to get its ESN (engine serial number)



If industrial, it could have "non" automotive pistons, piston ring position etc. suffice to say emmissions were the many/much of the reasons for differences etc.



So if this is the case (industrial) many internal parts may likely be different.



If it was a short block did the piston top's center look like a child's toy top with the pointy end up or a circular "knot" in the center of the piston (auto application like your oem ram motor).
