Well, all the new equipment is installed and up and running. They are running on new IP addresses so it will take a day or two for everyone to be hitting them. Please report any bugs that you find here in this thread and I'll do my best to get on them right away. For the geeks out there here's a picture of all of the equipment that keeps this place humming along. We've well over doubled the capacity of the site with the new equipment and will be easily able to expand that further as the need arises.

I'd like to thank Robert and Robin for giving me the support needed to keep this place humming along. They never balk at spending what is needed to provide top notch service for you guys and it's great working with them on it. For you geeks out there here is what we're running on now:

Front end

---------

HW firewall

Foundry ServerIron load balancer

Two IBM 336 1u file servers with

2 dual core Xeon processors each

2gb DDR memory

70GB SCSI HD

Gigabit ethernet for local traffic

100 Mbit ethernet for public traffic

Back end

---------

Gigabit Ehernet switch

Master database server

-----------------------

2 Dual Core Xeon Processors

2gb DDR memory

5 30GB SCSI HD's in a 5+1 raid array

80gb IDE HD for backup purposes

Gigabit ethernet for local traffic

100 Mbit ethernet for public traffic

Bakcup database/development server

------------------------------------

2 AMD 1. 9 Processors

2GB DDR memory

5 30 GB SCSI HD's in a 5+1 raid array

Gigabit ethernet for local traffic

100 Mbit ethernet for public traffic

Then for power backup we have a 3000va UPS which will keep things running until the buildings standby generators come online.

Now I'm off to BED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG week.

Can't bring up the classifieds, is this part of the upgrade? Says something about the " script being down for maintenance".

It's fixed. I forgot to remount a shared drive on the 2nd web server when I finished up moving some files around this morning. Something to do with 20 hours worth of work straight through (75 so far since friday afternoon).

Steve we appreciate the sacrifices you make. Do you have a real job too? Or is keeping us happy a fulltime deal? :-laf

Thanks for your support!

The only question that I have is I never seem to have the correct time of the post. What time are you going by.

Thanks,

Rob

You need to set your time zone - pull down the discussion forum menu to user control panel then click on user options on the left. Scroll down 2/3rds of the screen an you'll see where you set the time zone. Our clock is set to utc time since we have members all over the world. Once you set the time zone all times will be in your time zone.

PToombs, I have other clients as well but the TDR is about 90% of my work these days. So yeah, it's just about become a full time job taking care of you guys.

Right now about 35% of the traffic is getting through to the new servers and everything looks to be running great. Usually 99% of the DNS servers will have updated the IP addresses within 48 hours so by tomorrow morning just about all the traffic will be hitting the new servers.

DUNNO what's going on now, but this afternoon late, the website wasn't loading at all - tried several times. All other websites loaded just fine - finally the TDR site WOULD load, but is now randomly VERY slow to load new pages... No changes here to my PC...

I was doing some work at the co-lo facility loading a new version of the os on the backup db server and had to do some changes on the firewall that brought the site down for a minute or two a couple times. Also, if your DNS server hasn't updated to the new ip's it may be slower for you at time because the database server is also functioning as the web server on the old ip address so it's doing double duty for those folks. You can tell if your hitting the new servers by doing a tracert at the command line to the address your using and if it comes up 69. 61. 23. 10 your on the old ip - 69. 61. 74. 242 means your on the new ip.

Ran the tracer - I'm on the new ip...

And it's still running slow on most screens...

Did your tracert show any lines that were timing out? There must be somewhere because there is nothing at all here showing any problems of any kind. The web servers haven't shown over a . 2 load all day - 100% loaded being 4 on those or 5% of fully loaded and that's peak. On the database server it hasn't had over a 1. 0 - fully loaded being 8 or 12. 5% of full load. Noone else has complained about any slowness at all and I've been browsing all the time and every page pops up immediately.

I have not been getting my emails for subscribed threads, It seems like this started around the same time of the upgrade (maybe by chance)

Didn't see any timing out - but MAN what a tortured route between here and there! Musta been about 16 jumps! So far so good this morning - I'll keep an eye on it - probably just an anomaly due to my location...

Not getting new posts

I am not getting any new posts or threads after 15 November. It hows that that was my last visit even though I have been on line on the 16th and 17th also. Thanks
