In short, (no pun intended) an alternator diode problem may cause an engine to stall or catch fire.

You may well be right, though according ot the article it seems to me it is an alternator issue and I am GUESSING that perhaps those two models share an alternator. I am sure more info will come out soon. In any case, just wanted to post the info here even though it affects only a small number of trucks.

The fact that 4500 and 5500 are listed makes me think the diesel is included. I think those models only had a 6.7 but I could be wrong.

Seems to be a potential problem with the alternator on some trucks and cars causing shutdown or fires.

Pretty sure the 6.4 Hemi was\is an option in an MD truck. It is in all the LD series trucks. I *think* the diesel uses a different alternator than the gas engines because of the electrical load but not absolute on that. This may very well be a gasser only problem.

The couple of articles I've seen on the 08-09 5500 when I was buying mine said only a 6.7CRD was available. Since these are only reviews it is possible that the MD had the hemi but I usually think when multiple sources say the same thing it is probably correct.
