New Fiver

Traded my TT off today, and pulled my new fver home, man it make's a big differance pulling. This is my first fithwheel anybody have any sugestion's? I sure like how it pull's so far, and will like it better after old saint neck bring's in my bomb's. It's a layton havent heard any good or bad, the better half picked it out so ill blame anything that goes wrong on her. Harv

The only new thing for you to get used to is... turning the wheel the opposite direction when backing than you did with a regular trailer... takes some practice. . !!! I have been practicing for over 2 yrs now with mine and I still have a hell of a time doing it. .

Always make sure the pin is fully locked in position before picking up the landing gears. One way to check depending on what type of hitch is trying to pull way as soon as you lock it in to see if truck is pulling on camper. I have the Reese hitch and when I back up under the trailer, I can the release lever kick out and then lock in, I immediately try pull away to see if the trailer is locked. Also I can look from the back of the hitch a see if the jaws are locked.

To my surprise one day I thought I had it locked and the truck pulled right out from under the camper, was I glad I checked it.



Another thing to check is if your tail gate doesn't clear the camper when hooked or comes close to it make sure the truck is aligned straight with trailer when backing up to it.



Good luck and enjoy it, they sure are a lot better to tow than TT's

Put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and turn left you want to go left and right to go right, you'll automatically be turning the opposite because your hand is on the bottom of the wheel and it's a lot easier to do.

We have a 2002 Layton fifth wheel too. We just got it at the end of March and have put about 4000 miles on it this season. We like it very well. But the camping season is over for this year :{ , I just winterized it about a week ago.

I've had my new Montana since late June and have towed it over 2500 miles. Much better than my deceased TT. Easier to hook up and to set up. Definitely two thumbs up. Enjoy the 5ver.

An easier way when backing is to just point the front of your truck where you want the back of your camper to go. Need her a little closer to the curb side? Just point the front of your truck to the curb side. Try it, ya just may like it. Might be easier than trying to keep your hands in the right position on the steering wheel. I think I read this tip in Trailer Life mag and it really helpsl

Thank's guy's for all your reply's,We bought our TT in may of 1997 we have pulled it, from West Texas to Denver, and to Atlanta twice to wach the Brave's play, and a lot of trip's all over Texas, It pulled like a sled, with the other tow truck's ive had, this Dodge stock didn't have any trouble with it, it made the other truck's wish they wern't on vacation, Im hopeing with a little bombing this 5ver will be a pleasure to pull. One check the lugs and get some locks for the hitch liver and the pins ,if lever has no lock tab add one to keep good ol boys at the rest area from pulling the handle just for fun ,and others to lock the hitch to keep honest people honest , you can drill the handle of the pin to accept the lock and use the holes in the hitch or drill new ones . , Buy if not given by dealer a teflon 8" ring so you do not have to grease the top of the hitch plate or bottem of the pinbox . just lube the pin . A try pod for stable front you can purchase or make your own . /the rest is just like a TT . On the new trailers like yours a ground fault elimatro is in the area of the sinks kitchen and bath or sink . If loss of power this is one thing to check .
