Went to order a new fuel filter for my 01 from Geno's. Noticed the stock number had changed but also read the explanation and was satisfied. After receiving the new filter I was reading up on the new 7 micron version by John Holmes in issue 54 of the Register. I took from John's article that the 7 micron fuel filter was a great idea to use considering the amount of detergent in the new ULSD (Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel). Since I expected the new ULSD fuel to begin flowing out of my local pumps before my next scheduled fuel filter change, I decided now was the time to upgrade. I looked again at the Geno's Catalog I received with my latest Register. It says the new 7 micron fuel filter (part number FS19800E) is available for '00-'07. When I go on-line to order I find the Geno's web site says it is available for '03-'07. I've checked John Holmes' Carson Dodge web site as well as Fleetguard's. Neither clears up the question. Can someone out there answer this question with authority? New product releases can always lead to new confusion :-laf

TIA,

David

Go to www.scheiddiesel.com & look under filters or call them at 812-466-7202. It list the FS19800E filter 7 Micron for 00-06 at $12. 15 per filter. I buy all my filters from them. Looks like years 2000 thru 2006 that filter will work. Hope this helps.

24V-DSL If you have a fuel pressure gauge did you notice any lower pressure with the 7 micron filter over the standard 10 micron filter. Thanks

I thought I read an article on here that they make a 2 micron filter for the oil filter. Why do they only have a 7 micron for the fuel. . Seems backwards to me. I'd like a 2 micron for my fuel filter.

I tried the 7 mic. fuel filter from Genos and I had lower pressure , but it was monitored pre-filter, it went down to 8 psi. - idle. Switched back to the 10 mic. - 14 psi. So I am back with the 10 mic. I will be redoing the whole fuel system soon- I don't like the Cartter pumps at all. I want to have a reliable set up, and not carrying a spare again.

ILIANBG,

I can't imagine why your fuel pressure would drop to 8 psi pre-filter. Post filter would make sense, but pre... . ? If I may suggest... . take a look at the FASS system. I see that you have already done some modifications to your fuel system. I got tired of loosing lift pumps and the possibility of one always going south. A good friend installed my "baby fass" (the one without the filters) and I have never felt more secure in knowing I will have constant and adequate fuel pressure to the injection pump!

Best wishes,

David

A little over a month ago I ordered a couple of 7 micron filters for my Second Gen from Geno's. After I received them I noticed that Geno's website had changed the filter description from 00-07 trucks to 03-07 trucks. I emailed them to find out why they changed the application years on their website and this is what they said,

"We were contacted by Fleetguard that they no longer recommended the 7 micron filters for the pre 2003 trucks. They fit fine, but they wanted to avoid the use of the more restrictive fuel filters on the pre-2003 trucks. As soon as we received new information, we updated our system and website. "

Genos said I could return them if I was concered about this so I exchanged them for the new 10 micron filters. Very happy with Geno's customer service.

wlowe, this is not a dig at you. Just find their statement/response to be no help, at all.

Maybe because the 2nd gen fuel system really sucks unless you rebuild it, and they did not want to contribute to an already sucky system?

I have the 7 micro filter on my truck and I am measuring 1 psi less post filter than the 10 micron filter. I have my OEM lift pump on the frame with a vulcan 1/2 line kit. So far so good with the 7 micron filter. I am sure why they are no recommending the 7 micron for the 2nd generations is because of the POS fuel pump system from the OEM on the 2nd gens... .

I put in a 7micron from Genos a month ago. . Fit fine, and no change at all in fuel pressure. I have 10psi at idle, post filter, before and after the filter change. I'm still with a stock fuel system.
