What oil to use

C7 Cat Oil Change...strange idle.

Finally, today I had the chance to look under the hood of a Super Duty. I kept thinking, "my goodness, does the body have to come off to replace the belt"?

Amazing engineering isn't it? Only blind loyalty to the brand and/or ignorance could lead someone to buy one.

If they do come out with a crew cab then that would be good. . I already have the 19. 5" tires if the 8 lug pattern is the same...

4500/5500s use ten lug wheels.

Duh, I knew that..... was thinking of the 3500 regular I guess. . .

Hope they do make the 4500 with a crew. My turning radius is 20" shorter on my 5th as I have the sidewinder hitch so if the 4500 with a crew IS a short-bed, then no problem.

Don't know about that yet, of course, but one thing you'll like if you buy a 4500 is very sharp wheel cut angle compared to a pickup. They turn in a nice tight circle.

True Grizzly...

If I had My way it would be ford F-450 with a Cummins and Manual Trans.

Just was wondering on the 6. 4 as I have not been following it too closely.

Has anyone heard if they (dodge) are going to make a max cab on the 4500? That would be the thing for me.

I don't believe I could ever own another Furd, even if it had a Cummins and it was given it to me.

Well I just got a report back from our 08 F-350 that we sent to the North Slope a couple months ago. It has been in for warranty 3 times already for a plugged Cat or DPF, my foreman was not sure. When they took it in last week it was blowing 4-5 flames out the exhaust pipe:eek:

I keep telling the owner of our company we need to buy Dodges, but apprently they don't "make enough heat" when they are put in subzero temps.

Oh well at least the Fords give us great stories to talk about here at the shop. :-laf

Some people are just die hard Ferd fans no matter what, like my brother-in-law.

They don't make heat when they're broken

It would make more sense to have the CTD and install an auxiliary heater, no?

Well, apparently, neither do the Fords! (except at the exhaust pipe)

That is funny right there:-laf

The other main reason we don't see Dodges up there is they have never built a true 4 door long bed, that is all that is up there is crew cab long beds. You have to be able to haul 5-6 guys around along with a bunch of gear. I really don't think any truck can fair well in weather like that -50 to -60* is damn cold and hard on things.

I wish I could have gotton a photo of the flaming tail pipe though:D

Theres videos of another one doing that floating around on Youtube.

The part that gets me is Ford makes this big deal out of these new superduty power strokes going through over 10million miles worth of testing. So why all the problems yet? you would think they would have had it sorted out by this point.

I have a buddy that works for an international dealer, and while the new 6. 4 in them is minus one of the turbos, its still basically the same engine. He tells me they are junk, just like the 6. 0's were.

I have heard rumblings around these parts of 6. 4-equipped welding and crew trucks being denied access to oilfield facilities because of their flame-throwing abilities... . nobody I've talked to has seen one actually do it, but all have heard the stories or seen the Youtube videos. The mechanical outfit we use at work has acquired at least one-wouldn't break my heart if it never showed up as the best case scenario if it spits fire is an ESD (emergency shutdown) of the facility when a fire eye catches it.

everybody can stand around the right rear of the truck and roast marshmellows and weiners, it'll be like camp :-laf
