d3 cat lost power need help

Anyway, I was at the light the other day in my work truck '07 Toyota Tacoma 2wd w 2. 7L four banger, anyway a new Superduty F-350 pulls up at the light with the 6. 4L motor and new front end. Anyway I roll down the window expecting to hear the all so famillar sounds of a Powerpuke digesting all of it's internals, but in dismay the engine was almost as quiet as a gasser, I thought it was quieter than the latest Duramax, which is quieter than some gassers. Anyone else run into one out in the flesh? they are popping up everywhere lately I wonder if anyone has heard any good or bad things about them yet?

Have not seen any, but according to the latest info from DET News and Automotive World, Navistar has halted production of the Super Duty Diesel Engines!

When the 6. oh's first came out, they were pretty quiet. Then they had to reflash a bunch of them which ultimately removed one/some of the injection events which made them just as loud as the old 7. 3's. I had an old 7. 3, and when it was cold, it sounded likeI was runinng on 50% diesel and 50% ball bearings. Yeesh!

Hopefully, these'll do better.

I believe the 6. 4 finally went common rail like everyone else. You'll never get an HEUI engine to be as quiet as a CR motor.

The piezo injector technology should be inherently better than what's used on the Cummins injectors, but time will tell how well they actually do in the real world.

How far away from a Ford dealer were you? Are you sure the truck was still running? You might have been waiting on a light to change color, he could have been waiting for a tow truck:-laf :-laf That might be why the truck was so quiet.

Just a joke, I hope Ford got this one right. The trucks look nice and they offer some things Dodge does not. I hope the new 6. 4 works out for Ford.

FORD spells Driver returns on foot I guess in Ca ford is going to make sure AAA towing stays busy I guess we will see if they sink or swim ?

If you want QUIET, the new 6. 7 Cummins is quiet. It also comes with Cummins reliability, something that is not too well proven on International's V-8's!

Dieselnut: powerstroke isnt the only one with issues... im not bias to any engine maker but my 06 2500 CTD is in the process of being bought back by dodge due to constant issues.

Not to mention a dealer here in NC had every single one of its 2006 dodge's with cummins removed from the lot for recal reasons. 9 out of 10 where leaking oil. This info comes straight from the dealer

Did those trucks come out St Louis or Mexico?

I was told by a new Powerstroke owner that the cab has to come off to gain access to areas of the motor. :--) :--) This is the new twin turbo motor.

i recently test drove one of these new fords and its nice. nothing impressive but nice the motor is quieter then the dodges or chevys. i only heard turbo noise when i drove it motor was barely noticeable. like i said the truck was nice i liked the way it drove though it did not impress me by any means.

Grizzly im not perfectly sure on that one. Pretty sure mine is from St. Louis (sticker on the window?)

My 04 6. 0 PSD had to have the cab lifted off the body when we put head studs in and o-ringed the heads. Would never do that again what a pain in the asse.

I was at a performance shop yesterday in Utah, one of the macanics told be it takes about an hour to remove the cab on a 6. 0 and the 6. 4 is easier, only takes 45 minutes.

I have read many posts here on TDR that the Dodge's that come out of Mexico have fewer problems then the trucks that come out of St Louis. Therefore, when I ordered my 95 and my 05 trucks I told the dealer that if my truck didn't come out of Mexico, I wouldn't take it. So far so good.

I test drove one yesterday and thought the interior was butt ugly and the power was at best, average even though the turbo boost was 30 almost all the time unless idling. The turning radious is still horrible but better than before and the lines of the truck tries to mimmick the Hummer. And just out of curiosity had it priced, although the price was for a 350 4X4 C&C w/mans tran. the # shocked me at 48K verses my 3500 4X4 C&C at 42K. Part of the reason of the higher cost was the Navigation system by the factory made you buy the Lariot version (same as Laramie) which was excessive lux for me. The rep tried to sell me on a after market type Navigation system and after pulling his teeth out told me only there Dealership would warranty the nav system so had it priced in the Lariot version.

The 3500 4X4 C&C SLT G56 (my truck being built now) with the nav and blue tooth and sirious radio plus more options, in the SLT is awesome and cheaper by 6K, and I wonder how long it would take the Ford to be built with all the lawsuits going on. You know, not a word about the lawsuits when I asked about the delivery date, which was the standard "oh six too eight weeks".
