My stepfather just purchased an '05 3500 4-door 6. 0 liter Lariet. I thought yall might be interested to hear what they are offering as some opitions in the cab. It came from the factory with a boost gauge in the gauge cluster, 4 aux. toggle swithes mtd. in the dash, and a factory installed tlr. brake controller. The switches and controller are mounted to the right of the steering wheel. I thought this was pretty cool, eventhough it was a ford

I would not want a factory installed brake controller. I like my Prodigy!
Actually, according to Trailer Life magazine, the Ford factory brake controller was developed in conjunction with Tekonsha, the manufacturer of your Prodigy. Just like the Brakesmart, it senses brake system hydraulic pressure to calculate its output to the trailer brakes. Initial reports indicate that it may not be quite up to the Brakesmart's level of operation at this point, but it has the potential to be quite good as they keep tweaking the programming.

Personally, I'm glad to see one of the big three finally start to get serious about the trailer towing market.

Why a boost gauge, and not a pyrometer?????? Hey it still came with the crappy Powerstroke under the hood though.

Hey, I'm with Rusty. Let's not immediately start trashing their ideas just because they're coming from Ford. I hope the big three keep coming up with these new tricks just to one up the competitors, because then all of us consumers come out ahead!!

I agree,

Ford is taking a step in the right direction. Not too long ago, things like bed liners, tailgate protectors and running boards all had to be aftermarket, but now were seeing these things come from the factory. I think it's good. I'd love to be able to order my next truck with factory (and warranty covered) guages, brake controller, etc. etc.

Oh, just so I'm clear, Ford can add all kinds of goodies but I still don't want one. It's like putting icing on a turd.....

OK, that might be a little harsh! ;)

The factory mounted brake controller is a great option - but it is a $800 option!!

For $800 I can get my B&W hitch put in and a Tekonsha controller and still have money left over.

Is it a good deal - I think not.

my dad just bought a 05 ford crew cab 4wd dually with a longhorn conversion package in it and that thing rides like a cadilac they have quite a bit of power but it will not build but 28# of boost not worth $55,000 I'll keep my dodge IT'S PAID FOR!! :-laf

Slim's right. They ride like a Cadillac. I drove a 4x4 qc auto yesterday. Lots of room, very quick for stock (at least to 6 speed guy). The interior fit and finish sucks. They are no where near as upgradable or reliable as the Cummins. You ever heard a Dodge Cummins dealer tell you "the engine should get 150,000 miles. "?

I think you might be a bit off on that price. :) I was looking at a '05 SD yesterday and the price for the factory brake controller is $425 which includes the extendable tow mirrors. Those 4 extra factory aux. switch's sure look neat, wonder what kind of grief I'd get for putting some in my Dodge? :-laf

The reason the trailer brakes are cool is because it is integrated with the factory brakes on the truck as well as on the trailer. The work really, really well.

Also you guys need to check pricing because a 2005 3500 4x4 laramie goes for $46000 and my 2005 Ford F350 Dually 4x4 lariat only sticker for $2000 more. The funny thing is that invoice on the Ford is cheaper than invoice on the Dodge?

My SLT was $4500 less than the same Ford and $5000 less than the same Chevy when you compare invoices(I wouldn't pay more than invoice). I did my homework before I bought it. Go to Edmond's to compare.

The new ford's are priced way above what they should be. I bought a 95 F-350 4x4 crew cab, PSD, 5-speed XLT and was out the door for less than 27k. My 2000 f-350 lariat with 6m, PSD CC 4x4 was around 37k with ttl. Same truck now is around 48k?!?!?! I'd buy a c4500 first.

If the price was lower, I'd consider one. They have a fair amount more room. Still not sure about the 6. 0l...

If the 150k is true, I'd be overhauling once every 13 months.

I love the Super Duty's. If Ford came with a Cummins I would have one and if GM came with a Cummins I would have one. I'm a big fan of the motor and only a mediocre fan of the truck.

I agree I bought a new F250 (V8) in 1976 for 5600. 00

I bought a new F250 (V8) in 1978 for 7800. 00

I bought a new F250 4x4 (6. 9 deisel) in 1984 for 15000. 00

To many buying trucks that really don't need such a truck, But they just want it. I can't believe buying a deisel pickup truck and then start trying to make it a hot rod. Only in America

Just my 2 cents worth

I went to a show yesterday where there was a new 05' Powerstroke on display. MSRP was 51,754. 00 US dollars!

I remember when my dad bought a new 82 toyota 4x4 sr5 and spent less than 9k! LOL

I can appreciate inflation, but I don't think my salary has grown as fast as the price of new toys.

If you really want to do your homework, and want the real invoice pricing including dealer holdbacks, dealer incentives, customer incentives, market analysis, and more, go to www.fightingchance.com. Edmunds is ok, but is nothing compared to fighting chance.
